Had Doctor's Appt today

I had my doctor's appointment today(Mar 23, 2012) so we could go over questions and the like before I have surgery in three weeks. Three Weeks!! Wow...

Anyway...he stayed in with me for over 20 minutes, answering the questions that I had (thank you hystersisters for the questions). He had to leave at point for 10 minutes to see another patient then he came back in to answer any other questions that I had. He was very thorough with answering the questions and he did say some of the questions that I had would be answered at the hospital since they were hospital related questions. He said he would be doing a supracervical hysterectomy unless he saw something then it may turn into a total hysterectomy. He said that the biggest fibroid that I have is taking most of the area around my uterus and he wants to be cautious as he goes so I don't bleed too much. He said since I do not have a family history of cervical cancer, he wants to preserve the cervix, if he can. The same with the ovaries.

My husband was in there with me and he asked some questions also. Before the doctor left the first time, he looked over the questions that I had and even though he was glad to answer the questions, he wanted me to be careful. Not to go overboard, which I tend to do. I understood what he was saying. He was very helpful and patient with me, which I was grateful for. I tend to get overzealous when I need to research something.

I also talked to his nurse and gave her a pamphlet from hystersisters and she was real interested. I also had to sign consent forms, gave her a copy of my advance health directory, which she in turn made copies to send to my regular doctor. She said that the hospital would call me soon with the time of the surgery....hopes it is in the morning. And she would call my health insurance to make sure that they know and would pay. Hopefully they will.

All in all, it was a good appointment and I know to ask the same questions with the hospital when they call or whatever.

Re: Had Doctor's Appt today

Update: Just as I posted this post, I received a call from my doctor's office, the nurse...she wanted to let me know that the insurance approved the surgery. But it looks like the majority of the bill will be on us, which I have no problem with, since I am paying in installments with the hospital from the last surgery. She said something to the affect that they will pay 100% up to $2000 per person per stay. Sighs.....I know after all this is said and done, my husband and I are searching for better insurance. His insurance sucks that he receives through his employer.....but right now it is better than nothing.
