I'm new here

Hi -I'm new here. My uterus is currently enlarged to 12.3 cm x 5cm x 4.9 cm. I have one fibroid that is 6.1 x 6.6 x 5.5 (growing fast) and a smaller one that just showed up. I feel full/bloated, look somewhat pregnant and keep getting larger pants! Finally decided to do the surgery and am scheduled for TAH on 4/5/12. Getting more and more nervous each day.

Re: I'm new here

Hi lady!

My uterus was 290 grams (80 grams is normal) due to huge fibroids. It was nearly the size of a 4 1/2 month preggo uterus. I also had Adenomyosis which I didn't know until today - 2 weeks post op. I didn't have the TAH instead I opted for the DaVinci to remove my uterus and cervix. In hindsight, I'm so glad I did it and I am so thankful that I had a support system because the first week can be difficult.

I hope that you have some family or friends to help with tasks (cooking, cleaning, etc.) during your first week for sure and perhaps the second week as well. There are some great videos posted on this site that I think you'll find useful. After your surgery, you may want to join the thread that will connect you with other women who had their surgery the same week as you. It's been very helpful for me to see that what I'm going thru is normal post op.

All and all, I pray that your experience is a positive one and that you have a great recovery. Remember that you'll need a lot of rest after surgery so give in to your body and allow it the time and rest it needs to heal.

Hugs and Blessings!

Re: I'm new here

It's normal to be nervous, but everyone kept telling me I would have no regrets. My uterus was about the same size as yours, but mine was from Adenomyosis (basically endometriosis contained to the uterus) only. I had no fibroids, but yes, the pressure and the pain from my big, heavy uterus was awful. I also looked pregnant and had started wearing dresses constantly because of my belly. Everyone was right. I had no regrets.

I opted to have a supracervical abdominal hysterectomy. I kept my cervix but was cut open to get uterus out. The surgery you opt for is a personal decision and you have to do what is right for you.

I am very happy with my results as I sit here in bed recovering. I wish you all the best with your procedure and hope it gives you the results you are looking for.

Re: I'm new here

Hi Lady! welcome!!

I have no idea the size of my uterus, plan to ask a pre-op, but I have a large fibroid on the top coming in at small lime-size, lol!

I see you are Friday, good luck, and happy recovery!
