1 week and 1 day away

I thought I was feeling better about my hysterectomy, but it turns out the closer I get, the more nervous I become. There are so many questions and not enough answers. Like how long is the surgery going to take? I'm having the Da Vinci surgery. What are the risks? I know I am probably over reacting, but I have never had surgery before and I am scared and losing sleep over it.

Re: 1 week and 1 day away

I had my pre-op appointment today with my gynecologist - my surgery is also a week and a day away (April 3) and I am having the Da Vinci surgery. She said the surgery should take less than an hour.

Try to relax - I've had surgery three times now (tonsils, removed ovary, and ablation) and every time is different, but worrying about it will only make it worse. Maybe go for a walk or read a book or something to get your mind off of it. Or focus on how good you will feel after it's all said and done.

Re: 1 week and 1 day away

Sweetie, as the surgery day approaches you are bound to get more emotional and nervous. It is scary having major surgery! It is normal to be frightened.

As you never had surgery before, it can be even more unnerving. Know that there will be a whole group of doctors and nurses that will be there just for you, to watch over you, and get your through this. They all have special training. The nurses will help you feel relaxed as soon as you walk into pre-op.

We are here also, and will help you through this. Many of us were where you are now...we really understand what you are going through.

Some of your specific medical questions you can ask your doctor - they will be expecting these and should be happy to answer.

Sending cyber (((hugs))) to you..

Re: 1 week and 1 day away

I am going in on the 2nd so I am feeling your pain. I apparently now only need a couple of hours sleep a night and wake up running things through my mind and thinking about all the things I need to do on Saturday as Sunday is a write off due to clear fluid diet and bowel prep. I have taken to listening to my iPod for hours on end every night, at least listening to music takes my mind off things! The days are very long though getting through the work day is becoming a struggle but I am looking forward to feeling like a new person after years and years of suffering and that is what I am focusing on.
