Anticipated time in OR~~>3 hrs DH's reply: "what am I supposed to do?"

LOL! So DH is a nervous wreck! Probably, ok he's DEFINITELY worse than me. And usually hes nervous about things and im there to reassure him. Now of course I wont be able to.

I've never been "under" for so long. My longest is about an hr. So DH now knows that he'll be waiting, and waiting and waiting for the surgeon to finally come out and say "everything went well". Luckily my mom is coming with us. I asked her to come specifically for that reason. He'll be waiting alone, driving himself crazy. But with mu mom there she'll keep him company.

I saw a previous post about a "DH goody bag". If I have time I'll do the same for him and my mom. Anyone else?

Re: Anticipated time in OR~~>3 hrs DH's reply: "what am I supposed to do?"

I can imagine it would be really hard to be the one in the waiting room! 10 minutes feels like 3 hours. My husband is obsessed with angry birds, so I know that's what he will be doing. And i asked him to bring our taxes to work on! LOL
Hopefully the hospital will have good food, and he and your mom canhave a nice breakfast or lunch

I had alot of repairs done and my surgery was 5 1/2 hours. Yes, food, magazines, take a walk. He can be worried but he's a big boy and you're the one having the surgery -- he will be fine :-)

Can they leave or is it required to stay and wait?

My husband has a Kindle Fire and the hospital has wi-fi so he can watch Netflix or do whatever. But I know I wouldn't want to sit in there for hours. I hope he can leave for lunch at least.

Re: Anticipated time in OR~~>3 hrs DH's reply: "what am I supposed to do?"

My mom and husband came with me, but I sent my husband home after check-in. It was too stressful for me to see him so stressed so I asked him to come home, wash all the blankets and change the bed sheets for me so I could come home and sleep peacefully after surgery. That was freeing for both of us. I knew my mom could handle the wait and she called him when it was time to go so he could pick us up. Mine can't handle seeing me in pain. God bless him, he is a great husband but not the best in a crisis.

Re: Anticipated time in OR~~>3 hrs DH's reply: "what am I supposed to do?"

My hospital checked me into my room before surgery so my DH was able to be in the room and watch t.v. He had change for vending machines and we made sure the nurses had his cell phone number. My DH was nervous too. I think it is harder for the one waiting than the one totally knocked out and unaware!
