lump under incision, anyone else?

I have already went to the doctor but she didn't tell me what is was, just to not worry and we will just have to work thru it. I am just curious if anyone else had had this and if you know what it is? I am worried it won't go away and I will have this know forever. It is a little sore and painful, but I was told not to worry, just want to know what it is and if it will go away?
Thanks for your response!!

Re: lump under incision, anyone else?

I had a really hard lump under the incision and they told me not to worry and just like you they never told me what it actually was. Each week it got smaller and smaller and now at 8 weeks it is almost completely gone. Someone mentioned that sometimes they stitch the incision internally as well as externally and you may be feeling the internal stitches. Not sure if that is true or not.........

I have 2 lumps under and near my vertical incision. Went to my 3-week post op today and asked my Dr's PA about them. She said they are stitches to close the incision. They could take up to 12 weeks to dissolve. Unless they become bigger and painful, I should not worry about them.

HTH.

Re: lump under incision, anyone else?

The doctor stitches internally as well as externally and the lump will be there for awhile until the stitches dissolve. You will heal externally faster, but the lump will gradually go away. I am 5 weeks post op and mine is still there and still quite tender.

Re: lump under incision, anyone else?

Yikes! I don't have the courage to touch them! I've been squeamish about even looking at them (especially the lowest one).

Re: lump under incision, anyone else?

Get a hand mirror and look at it, makes it a little easier to look at. Not bad at all...

Re: lump under incision, anyone else?

That's how I did it b/c I was afraid I had accidentally tugged on a stitch about a week ago. I was 1/2 ready to pass out when I saw it in that mirror. Yeck!

Re: lump under incision, anyone else?

Thanks for all the replies, gives me some comfort that it will go away. I know for a fact there is internal stitches, so I guess that's what it is! Its def tender too! Its so great to have so much support on here and to know I'm not alone! your thanks so much!!
