Feeling overwhelmed by wanting to do too much

Hi
My surgery us Friday 3/30. I feel almost paralyzed by the overwhelming feeling that I should be doing more before my surgery. I froze a grand total of 2 meals, we are in the process of moving into a new house in April and there is so much more I should have packed but didn't, there are so many little thingshone calls, school work, etc that I should have done but either didn't find the time or didn't do.

Everyone here sounds so organized and on the ball. I feel like I slacked, and I am going to regret it. Well not really slacked b/c I am busy 18 hours a day, but that I should have done a better job preparing.

Please someone just tell me I am being an idiot and it is ok not to have every duck in a row. That my world (my family) will get through the next 2 months w/o me doing everything for everyone.

My plan for tomorrow is simple:
Dentist appt
Clean up my bedroom (full of packed and empty boxes which I do not want to look at while recuperating)
Do something fun with the ones I love.

Is that what I should do or should I try to get the mammoth list of "things to do" done b/c I'll rest better if I know they are done?

TIA
Martie

Re: Feeling overwhelmed by wanting to do too much

Sounds like you have to much going on.. At this point I would just try to relax and do somethng fun with the once you love. Trues me house work and everythng will be there when you are done recovering.. Im sure your family will be fine for a while if you dont do everythng for everyone.. Good luck and dont stress over house work..

Re: Feeling overwhelmed by wanting to do too much

Put this on your list, be healthy and rested for surgery. And take out of your mind that you will rest better if you get your mammoth list done. No, after you've done it all, you'll be too exhausted to rest well. Relax, have fun with your loved ones-- do things that will "fill your tank."

I froze 0 meals. We survived. Hubby's learning a lot!

Re: Feeling overwhelmed by wanting to do too much

Gosh, leave the list. It is a very big deal to prepare emotionally and physically for this surgery. I didn't get anything done either, it is like the days just flew by. I also had a list that I didn't get to. I remember feeling tired beforehand and only having the energy to do my job really. Also remember that you are having this surgery for a reason and the reason probably includes being fatigued from complications. Please don't be hard on yourself. It is important to rest.

Here's my experience with lists....as soon as you knock off one item, three more take its place! Leave the list, your family will survive. Take care of you, everything else will fall into place.

Re: Feeling overwhelmed by wanting to do too much

Thanks ladies. You are so sweet. I've actually gotten some stuff done today, so I feel better about it. I have a few last minute things to do and then I am going to rest. You are right. Everyone will be fine, and if they need something they can get it themselves. I am just so used to doing everything. It is my job, YK?

The hospital called and said I should be there at 12:00 and the surgery is still scheduled for 1:30. I am glad I only have to be there 1.5 hours early. Sitting there waiting is going to be hard for me. I wish they could just give me something for the anxiety as I get there.

Re: Feeling overwhelmed by wanting to do too much

I did nothing before surgery. Nothing. Had plans, lists, ideas, etc., and only ever gave my Mom instructions just in case and the rest? Well...I was a bit scattered, so...nothing else got done.

Turns out it wasn't such a big deal. I am glad now that I allowed myself those moments to mentally and emotionally prepare. I was ready on surgery day...really ready. And I am recovering in a house in disarray and oh well! At least I am relaxed and recovering well and the house will be ready for me when I am ready for it. Take care of yourself first. You will be glad you did

Hi Martie, you must be post-op now. How are you feeling? Are you at home yet?
