How long will I need help for?

I am scheduled to have a complete hysterectomy (taking everything) on April 10. I am a stay at home mom to my 4yr old. My husband is taking off to take care of her and me. Once he goes back to work I will be on my own from 1pm till after bedtime. So a long day. How long do you all think I will need him home with me.
I am having complete hysterectomy Davinci. It is one day surgery. My surgery is at 8am.
Thanks Sisters for the help

Oh I am so glad to hear your doing so well! Thank You for the positive thoughts. That makes me feel so much better.
So I will tell the hubby a week will be enough. Enjoy your day shopping as the new Princess you are.

Re: How long will I need help for?

I'm having DaVinci too and my doctor said I'd need help with my little ones for 2 weeks. My husband can only take a week off of work, so I'll just have to make due. A four year old won't be too bad (I have a 5.5 year old, a boy who turns 4 next month, and a 2 year old). 4 year olds are content to cuddle, play games with you, and watch shows and you can get by without having to lift him at all. I've had 3 c-sections, and based off of those surgery experiences then I'd say you need 24 hour help during your first week for sure. After that it really depends on how well you heal and manage pain.

Re: How long will I need help for?

I had my davinci on monday and my husband went back to work last night 3-11pm. Let me tell you it was a very rough night, BUT I bribed my 6 year old with nickels and he did what he needed to. I would recommend at least a week. :-)

LOL On bribing with nickels. That is too funny.
I am glad I had the DR write that I would need him on fmla for a week. It sounds like I will need it. My four year old is very active. she can handle the movie day here and there but over all she is lets go go go go So ya know.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: How long will I need help for?

LAVH here on the 10th of April too. Had pre-op appt with doc today and he said I would probably only need help for a week. Hubby took two weeks off and my mom is coming up for a week or two...just in case it goes abdominal.

vb82, bless your heart! Tell hubby ty and to be safe! Mine has had two tours so far and is starting into year three as a drill sergeant right now. I can not imagine going through all of this without my guy...you are one tough cookie to be doing it on your own with munchkins!

Re: How long will I need help for?

I have grown children, so that has not been an issue for me, I am 9days post op, you will need at least a week, everyone is different, but up until today I could not have coped with a small child, I can only spend a short amount of time up and moving around without cramping up again, I say you will need at least a week, realistically even more if it's possible. The thing is you wont know how you cope until you have to but most importantly you should not over do it or you will set yourself back. If he is there in the mornings maybe the schedule can be changed around a bit eg have a hot meal for lunch instead of dinner and bath your daughter in the nornings so that your evenings are easier, and don't sweat the small stuff xxx Good luck with your op

Thanks for the advice. My husband works so that he would be able to give her a bath in the mornings and take care of lunch for a while for everyone. Dinners will just be easy stuff like cereal. for a while. I am ok with that. LOL
What about driving. how long should I expect to not be driving?
