Bladder Slinger's Thread

Hi
I am getting a vaginal hyst with bladder sling on april 2, (keeping ovaries I hope) and would like to connect with others who are getting same. I am 58 years old, so no regrets about the uterus, just a lot of FEAR. I have 2 good friends who had a terrible time with the sling, one had parts of it falling out of her vagina, but I have a sister and mother who had that and no problems at all. I am in good shape, very active, I used to go to yoga classes and train my dogs for AKC dog agility competition, so I hope that helps me in recovery. I do have some trouble with anxiety, and that has kicked in big time. My DR gave me 10 5mg xanax and that is really helping, I never had xanax before.
Don't be afraid to ask for help, I did and I am glad I did.
On top of everything else, my darned back went out 2 days ago and I am going to my chiropractor everyday untill I go to surgery monday.
Good luck to us all.

Re: Bladder Slinger's Thread

Hi Flamewoman! I am just 1 year out from a total hyst w/ repairs and bladder sling. So thankful I made the decision to do this. After breast cancer and abnormal bleeding, a stage 4 prolapse, my "team" and I made the decision to do the total hyst and all the repairs in 2 surgeries. Wish now I would have done the whole thing abdominally as that is how it had to be finished. Anyway, I feel great. The main thing I would stress to you is give yourself time to heal. I know some women seem to have an alergy to the mesh, but I also believe some just don't let themselves heal before resuming their normal lives. I had a 12 week recovery period (it takes that long to heal the body to 80%) where I couldn't do anyything-no lifting, no bending, no stooping etc. Nothing that would put pressure on the abdominal area. Of course, that was mainly because of all the prolapse repairs. But I would still say to you to give yourself time enough to heal. I have had no problems, and I just had my 1 year checkup with my Gyno, who said my Uro/Gyno did a wonderful job, everything is high and tight and looked great! That was great news indeed! I have no regrets-and by the way, I was 59.

Good luck on the 2nd, and make sure you read the pre-op advice at the top! Some great suggestions there! Let us know how everything goes!
