Maybe a silly question about pajamas

Hi this may be an extremely silly question so please do not laugh. I am starting to get ready for surgery and I need some new pajamas for the hospital. They are hoping to be able to do my surgery LAVH but I suspect when I wake up it will have had to be TAH . . . here's the question. Pajamas- nightgown with no pants or pjs with loose pants? I am guessing nightgown would be my best option but I am not used to wearing them. Any thoughts would be appreciated and I am sorry if this is a dumb question.

Re: Maybe a silly question about pajamas

I wore pjs with loos pants, and hap laproscopic. But, when I had my c-section, I wore nightgowns. I would suggest if you comfortable in a nightgown, go for them.

I took Jammie's but never wore them. I had An Iv in the whole time and couldn't put my arms in the sleeves. I didn't use a single thing other than my phone and panties.

Re: Maybe a silly question about pajamas

I bought just a cute lightweight robe. That way I didn't worry about walking around in just the hospital gown, just threw my robe over the top, covered all my peeking parts ;-) The gown was convenient with the iv's and moniters and catheter... pajama pants would not have been good. I also brought a really fuzzy comfy throw blanket. The blanket kept me cozy in the hospital bed.

Re: Maybe a silly question about pajamas

I brought nothing but what I wore in and I wore that going home the next day. You will need nothing, as the hospital provides everything. You will have an IV and the hospital gowns are perfect for that. For walking the halls, you just use another gown as a robe which takes care of any fanny showing : ) My small incisions oozed somewhat post op that, and all the betadyne from prepping for surgery, made me "messy". Why risk ruining you your new jammies that aren't hospital friendly?Save them for home where you can really enjoy them. Many ladies bring so much to the hospital that is never used. Leave it at home, don't risk losing/forgetting it. Generally, you are too groggy for more than chatting and a little TV and then you are home. Spend time to make your home recovery friendly. Good luck to you!

Re: Maybe a silly question about pajamas

I was in the hospital 4 days and the only items I was glad I packed were my phone and charger, chapstick, brush, lotion, shampoo, and pillow. My incision bled, so I didn't want to ruin any of my stuff. I also had my IV all 4 days, and didn't want to hassle with it.
Once I got home, I found that t-shirts and some of my husbands boxer shorts, pulled up over the incision, worked the best. I tried night gowns but found they made it difficult when I wanted to switch sleeping positions.
If you do end up with an abdominal incision, you are going to need some large brief type undies that you can pull up to your belly. I had to send my husband out for some because all my underwear sat right on my incision line. I would also recommend a size bigger than you are used to. That way you are good if you swell.

thank you for your advice. I am very nervous about the surgery, but excited to hopefully be out of pain. This advice has been very helpful. Maybe it wasn't a silly question at all!
