Recovery complete

I am surely lucky in that I had no complications after my RALH which was Oct 24, '11. Long story short, I got really busy and lost my password so I am just now catching up here. I had a lot to take care of besides myself, due to the passing of my mom mid last year, but when I had surgery, I did take the time to care for myself, and asked for help ahead of time so my husband and kids were there for me when the time came that I needed them to take care of laundry etc. I went back to work fulltime a month plus a few days after surgery. Since I sit most of the day at work, it was a challenge to make myself get up every hour and walk around for a few minutes, but it helped me feel better more quickly. I put some emphasis on balance, rest is important at first, but try to excercise, little bit by little bit according to your own body needs. In January, my daughter started a cardio kickboxing class twice weekly, and I thought I it looked like fun, I could do that, so I did join, and although I was the worst at it the first month, I would stop just to breathe--pant really--, and could not keep in sync with the class, and even stepped out of the routine a couple times because I had some slight pain and nausea from the exertion. ( it was a pretty large group, the instructor kept an eye on me and everyone, but did not push, he encouraged, he knew everyone was there for their own reasons and even said "I am just here to help you meet your own goals".) So I "listened" to my body, and it also told me when it was better and I could go on. But, I kept telling myself "I will get better, I am getting better" and I did! I am still going, but I do miss a class or two when I need to. I often don't even think about the fact that I had surgery not quite 6 months ago. I hope this offers everyone some encouragement that you can get through this and be whole again.

Re: Recovery complete

I am glad to hear this ... I am 11 weeks out, almost 2.5 months. Working 5-6 hours a day and am tired, trying to do walking every day to help boost energy. But overall, I am definitely improving every week. I am looking forward to continual improvement. Being kind to myself, resting as much as I need to. Glad things are going well for you! Take care ...
