Adenomyosis Symptoms

Hi Everyone!!

I thought about creating this thread for those sisters that have or couold possibly have adenomyosis. It seemed to take awhile for my doctor to diagnose this, and found out through my own research that sometimes they cannot tell until after surgery.

Hugs to everyone

Re: Adenomyosis Symptoms

My doc thought I had it but it wasn't until after the surgery that the test showed that I did...
adenomyosis can be "silent", causing no signs or symptoms, But other women may have

Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
Severe cramping or sharp, knife-like pelvic pain during menstruation
Menstrual cramps that last throughout your period
Pain during intercourse
Bleeding between periods
Passing blood clots during your period

I had all of these and then I also had severe back pain because my uterus was fused to my back.
My symptoms were there for years but the 6 months before the surgery they went ballistic, causing my whole life to go on hold...

It wasn't a fun time for me but the surgery took away all the pain and I feel tons better now...

Hi Luv,

I have had some symptoms for over 10 years, but they have gotten worse in the last 5, and in the last year they are 10 times worse. Now the pain is everyday and not just during my periods, but definitely worse during my cycle.

I am counting the days until surgery. I just want my life back.
When you had your surgery was all that told to you or do you have to ask questions to know what was going on?

Re: Adenomyosis Symptoms

My doc is suspecting adenomyosis. I believe I have post ablation/tubal syndrome since I have had both procedures and the time line fits with other women's stories.

Pain like a knife in low pelvis central.
Uterus feeling like a burning rock upon waking.
Pain around left ovary.
Severe pain w palpation of uterus. during pelvic exam that lasted 3 days.
Two periods a month with some spotting in between.
Constipation resulting in straining resulting in passage of blood from vagina.
Brown or black blood.
Fresh blood.
Clots.
And finally this latest development of looking 4 months pregnant.

You know I never wrote it all out before. I do have issues. Lol

Re: Adenomyosis Symptoms

I have all of this except diarrhea- always constipated. I feel like I am pregnant all month long and I haven't been pregnant for 5 years.

Re: Adenomyosis Symptoms

It was suspected for years that I had adenomyosis, but I was told by my doctor the only "official" diagnosis comes after hysterectomy.
Here were my symptoms:

Periods that lasted 8-10 days
Bleeding would soak through a pad and tampon every hour or so the first 3 days, then would "let up" to the point I would "only" have to change my pad every 2 hours.
Clots that were marble to golf ball sized, sometimes even larger.
Blood at times was thick like pudding and almost black.
Cramps during my cycle that would make it impossible to function without pain pills.
Pain the rest of the month, mostly in my back. (My uterus was enlarged and severely retroverted sitting right on my tail bone nerves)
Two periods a month.
Severe anemia almost requiring transfusions
Pain with sex
Spotting in between periods

Man, after typing that I am reminded why I had this done and so glad I did!

Re: Adenomyosis Symptoms

Thanks for starting this thread!

I was lucky, had 2 good docs who diagnosed my adeno some years back via MRI and U/S. However, I do know that U/S is very subjective and adeno can be missed by an inexperienced radiologist.

If you have the symptoms listed here and have not been diagnosed, I encourage you to get a 2nd opinion. Especially because (as I've been told by my ob/gyn) adeno can unfortunately interfere with fertility, pregnancy, etc.

Of course it's not a "good" diagnosis, but at least you can then decide how to proceed instead of just dealing with the disease on a daily basis.

Anyway, my symptoms are:

Intermittent GI issues- upper and lower
Bloating- sometimes SEVERE - (where I look like 6 mos pregnant)
Extremely heavy periods with large clots
Cramping and spotting 2 weeks before my period
Low back pain
Protruding lower abdomen (my uterus is size of a 4 mos. preg)

Lately, my symptoms seem to be getting much worse (out of nowhere) and I'm looking fwd to the possibility of a partial hysterectomy sometime in the near future (maybe in 1 year).

I am happy to answer any questions about my experience with adeno.

Thanks,
A

Re: Adenomyosis Symptoms

Hi Aly!! welcome!!!

so, here's mine: ( but I am not too sure what is really adeno, endo, or Big firboid!)

Periods every other week last year from July - Dec, culminating to 7 weeks and going strong currently( even on BCP!)

Large ( grape+ size) Clots
Black, Bright red, the brown blood, cycling again and again
Unable to even get off the couch starting in January during cycles
Pain with intercourse ( sometimes bleeding after)
GI problems( from constipated to loose and back again!)
lower abdomen is now pooching WAY out!

so, right now, my problem is my seven week doozy! I was supposed to go in on Monday for my LAVH, but she fell and fractured her hand, so I am the 23rd... I have been trying to get an answer from her nurse for another BC pill option since Wednesday, STILL have not heard back. She also took a blood count Thursday, and no answer!

I am so frustrated I could spit!

Adenomyosis Symptoms

I had my hysterectomy on Feb 28 2012. My biggest complaint was my back and hip (sciatica like pain) because it was 24/7. I'm still having the hip pain. Just not quite as bad. Did yours completely go away? If so, how long did it take it to go away for you?
