Upset by my doctor's office lack of concern/rude nurse!

I am so upset right now!
first, a bit of back story: I had a Lap Feb 6th for adhesions, endo, chronic pain. She found a large fibroid as well as adeno. She made it clear to DH a hyster was expected now. I wanted an earlier post-op, but no, we have to wait 4 weeks...

So, March 9, go in, yes to hyster ( april 2nd). Told her, btw, I have been bleeding now 3 weeks. She says to double up on bcp, call Friday if it doesn't help. So Friday( march 11), I call, guess what? She doesnt work then! another nurse tells me, double bcp till then, and I will write a prescrip for Hydrocodone for bad days (10 pills). I tried the BCP, still bleeding. Called back on March 13, still bleeding. "Well, you only have two weeks till hyster, so just wait it out. probably the fibroid."

Last week, less than a week out, they call that my doc broke her hand and I am put off till the 23rd. "She will start back operating the week before. OK, fine, but I am still bleeding, 6 weeks now, can we DO anything?? Have to ask the doc, we'll call back, here's more Ibuprofen. Oh, and we'll check your blood levels." Friday, no answer, monday , no answer, STILL bleeding, 7 weeks now!

I called today and her nurse is out, really? three days off a week? ANother nurse calls me, and seems testier the longer our convo goes on! "The hematocrit is 39.5, not too bad for someone bleeding 7 weeks" I'm sorry, but I thought ANYTHING under 40.1 was anemic?? " meh, just take a multi-vitamin!"

So, I proceed to ask about my pain pills, I have only had 10 to last 7 weeks?? She gets snippy and says , IF the doc approves They will send in! WTH??? So, do I need to come bleed out on their floor to get 10 freaking plls for the next 3 weeks!?!?

Then I ask about an answer for another kind of BCP? Snippier this time, she saya, "WELL she broke her arm and hasn't been answering questions!" WTHeck, I thought it was her hand? I get it, it sucks, but there ARE three other docs in the practice and nurse practioners!

I am to the point I just want to ask if I will even have my surgery now, or find someone else!

but, then I realze, if I start all over again, I may have to wait even longer! I am so upset, I am crying as i write this!

Re: Upset by my doctor's office lack of concern/rude nurse!

That's bad. My next concern is what kind of support would you be getting from this office after your surgery? If you call with questions, ongoing pain or complications from surgery what will be their response? Will you be listened to, taken seriously, given more pain prescription?

I'm sorry but I personally would not be comfortable having this person messing around with my girlie bits.

Re: Upset by my doctor's office lack of concern/rude nurse!

So sorry you have to deal with all of this. I dealt with something similar with my FORMER GYN, he kept blowing me off like it wasn't a big deal (my life?, yeah it is). My mother died from ovarian cancer & sister died from colon cancer so yes, I'm concerned when I'm having issues. I would get a 2nd opinion, like both ladies here have said, what kind of treatment will you get once you have the surgery?. If you don't have control of your body, who will?

I'm so glad I listened to the ladies on this website & found a new & wonderful gyn who listened to my concerns & I feel so comfortable having my surgery next wk.

Good luck with everything!

Take care,

Re: Upset by my doctor's office lack of concern/rude nurse!

thank you all girls!!
I just keep wondering if it is really her, or her office running interference for her now. She should be back, according to them, able to operate monday. My pre-op is wednesday the 10th, so i am basically going to corner her about their lack of responses to me. And have no fear,i will personally request a prescription in my hot little hand before i leave her office!
i just keep asking myself if i want to settle for someone of lesser quality , lesser education, let alone someone who knows what she saw and did in my last lap. I don't know that I do want to give up on her yet, but I will give her my appointment to find out!

phhhtt! it is just soooo, grrrr! lol!

Re: Upset by my doctor's office lack of concern/rude nurse!

Doctors really try to avoid hysters in younger women. and fair enough if you want to give her another chance. But please make a list of questions to ask her. First: ask how her broken hand/arm is healing! And tell her about how her staff treated you and see how she addresses in what ways this will be different if you call with post op complications. I would also ask about pain management post op. Some lucky ladies are fine wih Motrin but some need prescription meds longer and there are doctors who won't write more prescriptions. Don't forget she gets paid for doing this surgery. You are in charge and you decide if you go forward with her or not.

Re: Upset by my doctor's office lack of concern/rude nurse!

Thank you so much!!

Your words of wisdom do REALLY help me! I am writing a list of questions, in fact , have been for a month, lol! That is a good question to ask if she will help with meds post op.

This last go-around, she did prescribe Percocet, 10 pills, and Ibupro 800, 20 pills. She did quite a bit, including lysis of adhesions for the colon, and endo excisions. That was enough to do it for me, and lasted a week. so, hopefully she will be pro-active. I know they are careful about not getting people addicted, but I have had 10 pills that lasted 4 weeks, so I have only taken one every few days, on BAD days.

But, all of this will be presented to her, most specifically why my issues were not handled by others in a more timely manner in her absence.

Re: Upset by my doctor's office lack of concern/rude nurse!

Oh! That stinks! I'm so sorry to hear that. I have experienced very bad office staff with a very good surgeon. It's so frustrating! Hopefully you are right on the money when you said that maybe they are just "running interference" for her right now. I'm sure alot of her patients are frustrated, so they are dealing with a lot of crabby stuff right now. No reason at all to be rude and seem uncaring to anyone though! Good luck, I hope everything works out!!!
