6 weeks postop. Just got my surgery papers.

Today was my 6 week check up with my Dr. I am healing well. I do have some discomfort and pain when I walk, and stand for a while. I was told to use Naproxen for pain and inflamation. I had not used any meds. since coming home. My energy is coming more every day.
I also got my papers from the surgery, and it said there, that my uterus and adnexa were normal sized and nothing wrong there! I was told by the Dr. that my uterus was enlanged and that I might have a canser there.
The Dr. also reccomended to have the ovaries and the cervix removed. I really did not want that, unless something was wrong with them. But I thought he would know better. He is a Gyn- Canser surgeon, which I was referred to by a uro. Dr. I thought I needed a bladder repair. I know I am 56 yrs. but never thought that organs would be removed from your body if they were healthy. I feel so bad about the whole thing.
This is such a long recovery, and painful, for nothing. It was not needed! Only a small enterocele and rectocele were repaired.
I did have my emotions up and more down, after the surgery, even though I am well into menopause. And 3 weeks after the surgery I started to have lots of joint pain. I am using estrogen now, hoping it will help. My hair is also falling out. Not sure why. I wish I would have known what I know today, and made a different decision, gone for a alternative to Hysterectomy. I have alway looked at hysterectomy as the last resort, try everything before making that decision. But life goes on. I think I might stay away from doctors for a while. Good luck to all.

Re: 6 weeks postop. Just got my surgery papers.

I can really relate to how you feel about having the surgery. I had a diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia with atypia before my hysterectomy. This has a high chance of becoming cancer and since past menopause agreed to hysterectomy. Also my mother had ovarian cancer, so I was glad to have my ovaries removed. However, when the pathology results all came back normal after my surgery, I kept thinking maybe I could have just had some more regular checks - nothing may have eventuated.
I have finally rationalised it to the point that at least I will not have the worry of possible cancer hanging over my head.
I hope that you too will be able to come to terms with the outcome.
