5 days post-op TVH

I had problems over a year with severe lower back aches, then my periods got very erratic, then very heavy. I ended up with periods that just wouldn't stop; lost so much blood I became anemic (8.8 Hemoglobin.) I had fairly large uterine fibroids. My surgery was postponed and I was put on large doses of birth control to stop the flow, and given IV iron treatments, which brought my levels up to 11.5. I then began bleeding again- dropped to 7.0. My surgery was on 4/2. I was given 2 units of blood before surgery. I had no catheter and no bowel prep. I had no nausea, thanks to my anesthesiologist. I stopped using narcotic pain meds two days after surgery and only a few Ibuprofen. My pain has been mostly gas. My heating pad was very helpful for cramping and headache also. I did use a fiber supplement and milk of magnesia once. I finally had a bowel movement on day 4, which helped. I am on day 5 now and feeling pretty good. I am resting a lot and walking some, but I have "tired butt" and I'm bored. I am eating, but not a huge appetite and I have lost 7 lbs. (Which is great!) Good time to quit drinking diet soda because it just doesn't agree with me and gives me more gas. How long before the gas completely subsides? I forgot to say my surgery was TVH, keeping my one remaining ovary (lost one 20 yrs ago to large cyst.)

MissingMe -

It can take a little bit for the gas to subside. On the safe side expect it to last several weeks.

If you haven't already visited there look for youre Recovery Progress thread in the post-op forum. There is one for every week of the year so make sure you post on the correct one. it can be comforting swapping recovery stories with others who had their surgeries at the same time as you.

Re: 5 days post-op TVH

Thank you tauruslady. Today is day 9 and although I don't have pain, I am still having problems with gas and bloating. It's just a general feeling of kind of a tummy ache, I guess. Hard to explain, but I'm sure it will subside soon.
