extreme emotions???

over the course of the past few months, i've noticed that my emotions are to the extremes... but since i've found out i need surgery, its even worse.. stupid lil things, will make me cry, make me extremely angry....wish happy was in there.. is this normal in this kind of diagnosis? i was never emotional or even had pms of any kind before any of this started about a year and a half ago.... please tell me its normal and i'm not like bi-polar or something.

Re: extreme emotions???

Are you in your early 40's? I was always pretty level with my emotions until about 39, and then bam all of a sudden I had crazy emotional swings, especially during and right before my cycle. I think it's def. related to the hormonal changes happening in my body as I get older. I had my surgery six weeks ago and even though I kept my ovaries, the doc said I may notice some extreme emotions as the blood flow to the ovaries is disrupted during and after surgery. Laughing this week, as my husband pointed out my craziness and I looked at the calendar and realized this would be time for my period if I still had a uterus!! Sigh, no magic bullet for the mood swings, just try and hang in there. I think it's pretty normal!

Re: extreme emotions???

trbl, I am having those issues, BAD today! I have been on my period for 8 weeks now (even through b/c pills). So, I have no set schedule. I feel what I am dealng with today is PMS type stuff, though....

Of course, I think it is normal for before the surgery, anyway.

Re: extreme emotions???

I'm 47, had hysterectomy a few days ago ( kept ovaries). I was an emotional wreck for a long time before surgery. Was always sick and bleeding and cramping and crying and crabby. Strangely enough I have not been emotional since surgery, except maybe a few brief crying spells most likely post op pain and stress related. I'm praying it stays this way, as many post op ladies post about emotional problems.

Re: extreme emotions???

You are not alone!! I was so ready to just give up. Any and everything that could go wrong did and I wasn't dealing with life very well. 10 days post op now. Have had a couple crying spells even though I have my ovaries. But sooooo much better! Hang in there! The end is in sight! Good luck to you!

Re: extreme emotions???

oooh yeah. and for the past week it has been 100x worse....but...my time is up. I started the bowel prep meds now and am not looking forward to this evening. I am indeed ready to have this over...this time tomorrow it will be all over and I will be chilling in the hospital. For now...about to have another meltdown.
