Help....omg the bowel prep

Hello sisters, I have been trying to get down the Gatorade mixed with Miralax since 12:30pm, I can't seem to do it. I still have half of the 64oz left. What will happen if I can't finish, will the dr. cancel the surgery???

Re: Help....omg the bowel prep

I had the same problem with mine. It wasn't Miralax, but Mediprep. Is it the taste or the consistency that's bothering you? Something that I read here - try using a straw. I would just pour a cup of it, take a deep breath, let it all out and then gulp as fast as I could. I would set myself a goal - like 5 gulps. Then I would "chase" it with a drink of fruit juice just to cover the taste. Maybe even a piece of hard candy would help? You can do it! We're here for you!

Oh, quick question - is what you've finished making any results? I've heard that once what you are passing is clear then there is nothing else left inside you, you're just passing the meds at that point. I think you're safe once you're passing clear.

Re: Help....omg the bowel prep

Thanks for responding I'm really stressing right now, the taste and the consistency is bothering me, I never liked gatorade. I am using a straw, and I had one regular bowel movement, the rest were watery but not clear yet. Whew, I thought being hungry would be the worst part, far from it!!

Re: Help....omg the bowel prep

Are you drinking it over ice? The instructions they gave me said some people find it more palatable over ice. By the time I was taking that, though, candy was forbidden. I was on liquids only. I never liked Gatorade, either, and now I never want to see it again. LOL. Good luck to you!

Re: Help....omg the bowel prep

I was gagging, I am walking around with a bag I feel like I'm going to bring it right back up. I just had to lay down to try to get myself together so I can finish. I just hope everything will be ok tomorrow.

Re: Help....omg the bowel prep

If you are not going to be able to drink it all, you need to call your doctor and ask what to do. Everyone should follow bowel prep instructions to the "T" with no adjustments unless you talk to your surgeon. Bowel prep before a surgery can be more critical than for a colonoscopy and not following the instructions can endanger your health and even be fatal.

So please, give your doctor a call. S/he may be able to offer some suggestions for alternatives or assure you that you will be okay without finishing the prep.

in there!

Re: Help....omg the bowel prep

I'll call, it might be to late to reach the Dr. Before my 5:45am arrival tomorrow. I difinately will tell her and I plan on bringing the unfinished bottle with me.

Re: Help....omg the bowel prep

Drinking prep doesn't go well for me either so my goes out to you. Try not to worry.

Keep drinking what you can and if you don't finish do tell them in the morning and show them how much you didn't finish. Push the fluids, too, as that can help.

In the morning (if you don't get hold of your doctor), she can decide if proceeding is okay and can then adjust how she proceeds knowing how much of the prep you did do. The surgical staff and anesthesiologist can also adjust any fluids for your surgery if need be if you can't finish the prep.

You should be fine--but it is better to be safe than sorry so you always want to be up front in this area!
