Re: Second guessing removal of cervix

My cervix is going to get removed but not my ovaries. My concern (apart from the ones mentoned above, scar, raw edges etc) is dryness. Forgive my ignorance but doesn't all the lubrication come from the cervix?! I have quite a lot of secretions (soggyness) all the time. Will that just dry up? Those are my concerns with the lack of cervix. This is bothering me. Sorry probably posted this in the wrong place!

Re: Second guessing removal of cervix

To Ladyfugi...... My DH is on the large side too and I've had no problem with that. He hasn't ripped or hurt me in any way since my surgery. The first you try sex after the doctor says ok go slow and use lots of lubrication and you should be ok. That's what my doctor recommended and it worked.

To Christinegow........Before my surgery I had to use lots of lubrication too. I had my cervix, uterus and one ovary removed. Since my surgery I have noticed that I am actually producing more of my own lubrication and I am using less of the other lubrications. My DH and I have actually had sex several times where we didn't any lubrication at all. We could not have done that before my surgery!!!!! ((((hugs))) to you both!!!!

Re: Second guessing removal of cervix

I neve needed lube before the surgery and was worried same as you. For the first couple of times we had sex after, I needed lube. We really liked the silicon- based ones. However, within maybe two months, I was producing just as much lubrication myself as I had before. Really, no difference at all.

Re: Second guessing removal of cervix

always remember you will find, so many more worst case scenarios on line because the ones that do great, don't feel the need to get on here and tell everyone who will listen... so you never see the good stories (except maybe on this site). and also remember the the ones complaining could be embelishing or remembering it alot worse than it was.. that does happen sometimes.. but good luck to you and keep us updated

Re: Second guessing removal of cervix

I am glad you asked this question. My DvH will include the cervix and I feel better knowing others have come back healthy and found a way to deal with changes from before to after.

My doctor was very frank with me and so was the GYN, it made the first decisions abrupt, but laid the cards on the table.

I'm glad you all are willing to discuss these things. There is hope for a sex life after surgery.

Seems important to sort questions to the doctor into before and after too.

Thanks ladies .

Re: Second guessing removal of cervix

Hi Ladyfuji,

I'm having my TAH this coming Wednesday, and I've struggled with the same question. I finally decided that I'm having my cervix removed too. My doctor recommends it too. The thought of possibly having "mini-periods" every month if I keep my cervix makes it even easier to say "Take it out!". If I'm going through a hysterectomy, my "prize" should be NO MORE PERIODS!! LOL! Now I'm just praying NO CANCER & that I get to keep my ovaries!

Re: Second guessing removal of cervix

I am 7 weeks post op tomorrow. TAH, kept both ovaries, though Dr warned me he would remove if he went in and they looked like they needed removing. I just got the okay for sex last week, and I had the same concerns about the cuff, and prolapse, etc.

I don't miss my cervix at all. No bumping of my cervix. My orgasms are still as intense, and because I kept both ovaries (which produce hormones fr lubrication), I am more lubricated now because my big fibroid is gone - no pain or discomfort anymore.

Re: Second guessing removal of cervix

I am going through the same exact thing. I have to choose whether to keep it or remove it, and I am leaning toward removal. It is a comfort to hear that someone knows what I am going through. My surgery is not until the end of June, and I am torturing myself over this decision. I wish I could give you some advice, but know that you are definately not alone.
