Re: Any one else BRCA2+

Wish I would have found this prior to your surgery. Hope you are doing well. I am BRCA2+ and chose to have prophylactic hysterectomy and prophylactic bilateral mastectomy. My surgeries were done together on October 25th, 2011. For me, the choice was a no brainer. I did what I thought best for myself to not get cancer. My mom and cousin are both BRCA2+, as well, so I do have people around who understand. If you ever have any questions, or just need to vent, I am here. You are not alone!

Re: Any one else BRCA2+

I am doing well. The surgery went as planned and the pathology report came back negative. I am back to work and back to life. I feel ok most days but there are still days I am totally wiped out.
I am currently on HRT and it is working alright but I am doing some research on natural replacement through food and such because I am not totally satisfied with the HRT. I am on a patch but I can't stay on it long because of the BRCA2. I am looking at the BMS this fall but if for some reason I can't I don't want to chance cancer. The longer I am on it the higher my risk and I already have a high risk.
Let me know if you are offered a different option. I am kind of curious. I didn't think twice about the hyst because the chances of catching ovarian cancer early is pretty small. Most of the time when it is known it is to late to do anything about it. Good luck. Thanks for posting.

Re: Any one else BRCA2+

Don't hesitate to get done what you think you need to... My story: thought about a hyst for several years because of how bad I bleed and some hormonal things I didn't like. Then in Feb this year, I suddenly felt like it was imperative that I do it. They did an endometrial biopsy in March, which came back ok, just some thickening of the lining. I had the surgery April 12. I had melanoma... skin cancer... and felt like I was more at risk, so had the ovaries, uterus, and cervix removed. The pathology came back showing cancer in the uterus. Thank the powers that be that I decided to do the surgery. Who knows what would have happened if I held off.
