7 weeks post op and still feel not up to par

I'm almost 7 weeks post op. I'm still feeling pretty blah. I have my days when I feel good with energy, but most days my body is quick to let me know I had a hyster with complications. I guess this is the "2 steps forward, 3 steps back".

My incisions (3 laps and an abdominal) are still numb, sore, achy. I have lumbar facet joint arthritis, but it seems even that has gotten a lot worse. My tummy gets achy and my back starts to really hurt if I am on my feet for more than 30 minutes.

I was a runner/weight lifter prior to hyster. I felt strong and fit. Now I feel like a weak, elderly woman.

Anyone else feel like their recovery is slower than most?

Four Seasons, I totally understand what you mean.

I have been feeling the same way. I thought it was just me having issues after reading several of the 'I feel fantastic' and the 'I had no bleeding' posts.
I been having bleeding issues and my face has broken out in the last 10 days like nothing I've had before! I just feel like I'm not getting anywhere and am stuck in a rut.

Re: 7 weeks post op and still feel not up to par

Your not alone! I'm at 9 weeks out from TAH and finally can say feel as I've turned the corner for the best. I thought at the magic 6 week part I'd feel almost all better. For me weeks 6 & 7 were very tough. Swelling & heavy sore tummy with cramping. At week 8 I did felt better, less sore or cramping but still swelly belly . I've been very busy & on the go since Friday and finally feel like I may live through this. Hang in there, better days are ahead. I think we all are too hard on ourselves and need time to heal instead of having high expectations of how we should feel or what we'll be able to do.

Re: 7 weeks post op and still feel not up to par

My face was really oily the first 2 weeks, but it's gotten back to normal now.

I suppose some of us just need more time. My main complaint is the achy/sore incisions and my lower back.

Thanks for the encouragement, alwaysclassy.

I know I'm hard on myself. It's just been a difficult experience for me with the complications that I had. I may have to have more surgery in mid to late May for a fistula. If so, I'm thinking I'll finally be feeling good before I'm right back to surgery. Oh boy...

Re: 7 weeks post op and still feel not up to par

FourSeasons, I'm sorry that you are having a tough time. I am 8 weeks post-op and recovery has been harder than I expected too. Without any real complications, I have had a rough time with BM, constipation and fatigue. My lower back has been giving me some problems this week, but I had issues with it before surgery. I am feeling so much better this past week, but am still not back to my pre-surgery self. Good luck with your surgery in May and I hope you feel better soon.

Re: 7 weeks post op and still feel not up to par

Thank you, Nonna4

I think if one is prone to low back problems, the hyster recovery may exasperate it a bit. Maybe because it's trying to compensate for a pelvic and abdominal area that is weak from surgery and recovery. Still, it's no fun.

Have you tried Miralax? I used to suffer from chronic constipation, but Miralax made it so much better.

I have a vvf (fistula) and leaking urine from the vaginal cuff area. I used to go through 2-3 poise pads a day, but for the last 2 weeks, I'm barely noticing a leak. I'm pretty sure it's a small leak though. What's going to be a pain is either having my uro/gyn verify if it's healed/almost healed or finding the fistula. I see him on the 30th for another cystocopy. UGH If he can't find it, then they want to put me under and do a more extensive search. He said,"You'll feel more comfortable under anesthesia". I'll take his word for that.

I'm annoyed with being poked and prodded.

So, I'm sort of in limbo now not sure what's going on. I just look forward to the day when my body is not screaming at me for having this hysterectomy.

Best wishes for your continued healing

7 weeks post op and still feel not up to par

Hi, I am 4 weeks post TAH today and feel just like you. My stomach is so heavy can't walk very far either, can't get in any clothes I have, but am hoping that over the next few weeks things will improve. We have just got to chill out and the good days will come with time. Take it easy :|

kb, Sorry you struggling right now. Ew, I remember week 4, I was so over the laying around and sore swelly belly. It really does get better and you'll be amazed with how great you feel in a few more weeks. Rest & water! There is light at the end of they Hysterectomy tunnel!

Re: 7 weeks post op and still feel not up to par

Today is 7 weeks post op for me and the past 2 days. I literally have been exhausted, fatigue, just plain tired. I'm not sure why. I feel like I had more energy the past few weeks compared to now. I seriously feel like I just had surgery because I'm this tired.
