Belly binder

I had surgery on Friday (it was delayed again). Emotionally I really don't feel any different. I was just curious as to how long everyone wore the belly binder for? I am more comfortable with it on still and was told to keep wearing it but I am not sure for how long. I am a big girl so the support I think helps with the pain.

Re: Belly binder

Keep it on as long as you want. I have read posts from ladies that kept wearing several mlonths post op as it made them feel protected.

Re: Belly binder

That is good to know. It does make me feel more protected also.

Re: Belly binder

I had my surgery on 3/16. I wore it for 2.5 wks. I felt so secure with it but then I noticed I was getting a burning pain...once I took it off the pain got better. Not sure if i was wearing it too tight but I'm 1mo today post op and I don't need it any longer. I was scared to stop wearing it because it became my crutch but I was certain I was ready

Re: Belly binder

I wear mine all the time. Loose or tight depending on what I'm doing (tight when walking, loose at the end of the day). If I feel a cough or sneeze coming on, I can quickly tighten it for support. My back has been really hurting so I put hot packs on the area that hurts and the binder keeps it in place. It is very comforting to me and a constant reminder that I have to take it easy. So wear it however, whenever!! Speedy recovery for you!! Laura

Re: Belly binder

I was advised NOT to use one at all as it stops you using (and thereby strengthening) your abdominal muscles and if too tight can do damage. I haven't actually had any issues at all with needing support - have never even had to hold it but I can imagine that for some its invaluable. Amazing what different advice you get depending on which country you live in. Anyone else in the UK been told otherwise?

Re: Belly binder

The binder can not stop you from using ab. muscles. When you stand up for example, you use muscles and having the binder on can not stop those muscles from working. For me, it just helps hold it all together and supports. I have the one sold at the hystersisters store which is much better than the one I had after my c-section. I guess your answer, hlaoroo, is to ask your DR.

Re: Belly binder

I used one off an on for 4 weeks, especially if I was away from the house. I now carry it in my work bag just in case I need it. Friday will be 5 weeks and I have not used it in about 3-4 days.

(That said, I also use one when my herniated disc acts up, it keeps the TENS machine electrodes in place on my back and helps retain body heat in the area.)

I figure when it is more annoying than helpful, I do not need it.

Re: Belly binder

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am overweight so I think the extra support helps a lot. It does make me feel more secure and protected also. I don't wear it too tight so maybe I will just wait and see how I feel about it. I was thinking about wearing it more on than off at least till my follow up appointment.

Re: Belly binder

I had my surgery Friday April 13th. TAH. When I woke I was all bound up. I love the suppprt from the binder. My physician told me to keep wearing it at least til I see him this coming Friday.
