TVH - What have I done?

After complaining to my GP for years about painful heavy periods, and told 'It's part of being a woman and the pill would fix it' I asked him about a Merina IUD. He then sent me to a gyno. After the first exam, the initial thought was fibroids. Then an ultrasound confirmed Adenomyosis. Two months later I went in for a Vaginal Hysterectomy. During surgery my bladder was torn and had to be repaired. I woke with a catheter that remained with me for 6 days. Uncomfortable! After having A CT scan to make sure bladder wasn't leaking, out comes the catheter. I took it for granted that the natural act of urinating would just come back. How wrong I was. Apparently the longer you have one, the longer it takes to get 'going' again. Swelling and small irritations from the tube take it's toll. Day 7 and I was begging to go home. The only way that was going to happen is with self cathetering. Felt so un-natural and NOT pain free at all! I really was regretting the whole Hysterectomy decision! I kept thinking 'what have I done?' Painful periods were not that bad! Three weeks on and not having to self catheter any more, but, still feeling the bladder pressure. Takes ages to empty out and not much feeling when I do.
I don't regret the decision any more, but still yet to see or feel any benefits. Still early days. Oh and might I add - The tears! Boy do I cry a lot these days!
Thanks for letting me have my rant.

Re: TVH - What have I done?

I am so sorry for all you have gone through! It is not uncommon even without the problems you had with your bladder to have some bladder pain and trouble emptying post op. Give it some time and be sure to report any symptoms that indicate infection to your doctor.

Re: TVH - What have I done?

Keep getting checked for bladder infections! That long cath use increases your risk. Took me a good couple weeks to pee more normally, and I only had the cath for 2 days.

Re: TVH - What have I done?

I only had a cath during surgery and I think it took the first week before I felt normal again. Now I feel an ache when I empty my bladder from time to time. So I can only imagine what you are going through!! Drink lots of water. Im sure you will strengthen up again soon. This is only a temporary setback. You need to give yourself some time to get back to "normal". Prayers for patience right now! You may not regret it in another month or so

HUGS

Re: TVH - What have I done?

Today is day 16 for me, and I've still got the catheter due to bladder damage. My ovary was fuzed to my bladder with adhesions from prior c-sections.

It is AWFUL. The bladder spasms (even with two meds to relax them) are crippling.

I passed the "leak" test yesterday, and see the urologist at 10 today to hopefully remove the cath.

Even with a pain pill and sleeping aid, I just pass out. I haven't actually relaxed enough to get good sleep in weeks.

I cannot wait to actually relax fully.

I feel for you on the crampy and grumpy bladder. Hang in there!
