Just back from 9 days in the Castle post-op

Hi Sisters,

I am not sure what thread I posted on when I was feeling ill so I figured it would be best to start a new one. Had my LAVH on 3/30...on call Doc tried sending me home on 3/31 but I held my ground as my pain was not controlled once taken off IV meds. Went home 4/1....called my GYN on Monday...feeling worse and having trouble controlling pain. Back to the office on 4/4...more meds...possible UTI....gave Doc day to day updates....she wanted to put me back in the Castle. Stayed in bed, did nothing around the house...got restless on Easter Eve so I decided to join the land of the living...bad move. Almost passed out, shaky and sweaty I went back to bed defeated. Joined in on decorating Easter eggs and back to bed. Up at midnight to help out the EB and really feeling horrible. White knuckled it through Easter...cooked dinner and was all done by 6 pm. Woke up next morning and could take it no more...called Doc...was sent to ER. Spent 7 hours in the ER on a cot in the hallway! Examined in the hallway...got there at 11 am and wasn't seen by Doc until 3:30...pain level was a 15 by then...no food or drink all day and obviously no meds. Admitted at 4:30...in a room..with a BED, phone and TV finally by 6:00 pm. After every test imaginable....I was told UTI, possible kidney infection and paralytic ileus. Still unable to control pain with Dilaudid in IV....spent two days like that begging nurses for pain relief. Unfortunately the day I was admitted my Doc was stuck on Maternity floor monitoring Pitocin patients and the next day she was off. By the time I saw her face 2 days later, I fell apart...cried in her arms. I am barely passing urine...about 100 cc's at a time maybe 3 -4 times a day while on IV fluids. Not eating only interested in ice water. She was furious and took over immediately. I am put on a PCA (which I was supposed to be on all along) and am able to get some relief. Long story short I just got home last night...admitted 4/9...discharged 4/16. Kidney infection with a side of paralytic ileus...which was treated with high doses of IV antibiotics and every laxative known to man. When the laxatives finally took effect...all at once...it was like a mac truck drove through my intestines. Covering MD convinced I have IC...urologist not so certain but it is too soon to do any diagnostics as I am already so irritated. Word to the wise...I didn't think I was constipated as I was having small BM's all along and I have never been regular. A pain specialist was brought in and I was switched to Dilaudid pills and a Fentanyl patch...still suffering but had enough and miss my family more than I miss having a pain level lower than 7. What a horror show! On the bright side, my LAVH scars are healed beautifully! I forget I even had the surgery...as the bladder and kidney issues have taken over my life. Also, just as I was gathering my things to be discharged...I moved a chair out of my way and within 5 minutes I was bleeding...when it rains it pours. Be careful to listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Rest...and if your Doc says it's time to go back to the Castle....listen to him/her. Please...don't end up like me. It is a never-ending story. Just glad to be home...spent a solid hour cuddling my 3 little ones in bed this morning. Hope everyone else has better stories to tell but felt it necessary to share...maybe someone can avoid my mistakes by reading this. My Doc says your body cannot heal if you are in too much pain and she is so right!
