very helpful book

Hi! My acupuncturist recommended a book to me: "Prepare for Surgery; Heal Faster" by Peggy Huddleston. I've just started reading it, and I've already found it to be very helpful. The author talks about how the patient can be instrumental in his/her own healing, by learning to relax before surgery. She provides relaxation techniques (there's also an audio cassette available) and also talks about letting ourselves cry, etc. There's advice that makes sense to me about why we should find a surgeon we trust, and why it's important to meet our anesthesiologist beforehand (we're entrusting our consciousness to him).

My TAH is scheduled for Jan. 22 and I've been having trouble sleeping. I think this will help!

Hey Flocat, I'm a 1/22 gal myself and have also had trouble sleeping, last nite I did better on th couch, think I hurt poor hubby's feelings. I have company this weekend, had it last weekend too, good in that I love them, and distraction from this consuming thing. I have resolved not to go to the post hyst board as it scares me. I want to think positively and am looking forwars to: watching the winter olympics!
Reading 4 novels I have ordered just for this time.
not working!
FEELING BETTER when this is all over!
I am trying to get as organized as I can, and have food in house, house clean, etc -but am a little crazed - like thinking I MUST clean my miniblinds that I haven't cleaned in 5 years, wash windows... when I should be relaxing and preparing myself emotionally. Going into this physically challenging and emotionally charged event being totally exhausted from stupid chores is crazy.
Here is a true example from my list of VERY IMPORTANT things I MUST do before surgery:
"Must change snowmen decorations to Valentines DAY! - flag, lights, tablecloth, candles, etc" I mean really - I am a whacko!!!
