Surgery is Thursday, getting nervous

Hi all. My surgery was supposed to be yesterday but got moved to this coming Thursday due to a scheduling conflict at the hospital. I'm starting to get nervous. I'm having a daVinci total hysterectomy, leaving the ovaries (I'm 38) I'm worried about what the pain is going to be like and how recovery will be. Pretty normal I guess. I'm also worried that some freaky thing like being able to feel everything even though I've been given anesthesia and not being able to tell anyone LOL Yes, this did keep me up in the middle of the night last week Anyway, just sort of wanted to vent my fears a little. I know everyone goes through it. Thanks for reading.

Re: Surgery is Thursday, getting nervous

It's funny you mention the anaesthetic and being able to feel things. My very first time I went in for a d&c the nurse I spoke to warned me that one of the side effects was this. It really freaked me out! I have been under four times now and I do not remember any of it.

I didn't have a DvH, but the pain I experienced after surgery was actually less than I had been living with over the last year. It was really nice to wake up and not be in deep pain. The surgery pain was different, not as deep. They give you plenty of pain killers to manage though. I had a pca but they took it off me after a couple of days because I was only using 1mg of fentanyl every 2 or 3 hours.

Best wishes for your surgery, I am sure you will be fine.

Re: Surgery is Thursday, getting nervous

I am 6 months post DvH...
To be honest I had way less pain after surgery than I had 6 months before.
I have had 3 surgeries that I have been out for and I never felt pain during them... just normal recovery pain after waking.
The biggest issues I had was with gas pain and tiredness.
I thought of all these kind of things too...

That is so funny I had the same fears. I saw a movie where the guy felt everything and couldn't tell anyone. Well I am 10 days post op DVH. LOVE IT! No problems pain has been minimal. Nothing like what I was going through before. Should have done this years ago!! You will be fine, Good Luck sister!!!
