how long did you need pain meds?

I had lavh on Monday 4/16 and everything went smoothly. I am having moderate pain, feels a lot like deep cramps with back ache. I am taking 2 Percocet 5-325 every 4 hours and that is managing my pain perfectly. I had to call the doc for a refill on the pills because at the rate I am taking them I would run out over the weekend. Nurse said I can have 1 refill of 20 pills and if I need more after that, I will have to see the doc. Just wondering if I can expect the pain to start easing up soon? I am day 5 post op.

Re: how long did you need pain meds?

sister its been 4 years and i still need pain meds!!!! just kidding. it truly all depends on you. after 1 1/2 weeks i started feeling great but after 24 hours i was hurting alot. ive been told by a very wonderful doctor that the window they give for normal healing and pain management is a standard 8 weeks. i took my pain meds on schedule for that week and a half and thought i was fine... i wasnt. it truly takes some time before the pain is gone. dont stress yourself if you need your refill and go through that and are still having legitiment pain talk to your doc make sure theres nothing else going on . i know after 4 weeks i was completly off them. thered be a day i might take aleve and only need 1 pain pill. its all about you and your healing rate. i had a 1 and 2 year old so that made itr a little harder to rest. good luck to you and keep us posted

Re: how long did you need pain meds?

There is a thread with 19 replies to this same question I saw yesterday. It's on page 5 of this forum about 5 threads down. See if you can find it. It has a lot of different answers to your question there! I'm 2 weeks post op and still taking 5mg percocet every 5 hours or so.
