weight gain and bloating

Hi, had my surgery on Apr 19th. Got home yesterday. Had the Da Vinci performed. Pain is very little, but still sore. My question is the weight I gained in 2 days!! My stomach area where incisions are is very bloated. Is this caused my water retention or the anesthesia that is still in my system. I was told that it stays for awhile. I had nothing but liquids, and now just eating bland food. Any answers for me?

Hi, I had surgery on 19th as well . Following morning after surgery I weighted 6.5 lb more then the morning before surgery. It is water weight, so don't worry, it will come down slowly. Stomach may be very "pregnant" for about 7 days as per my Dr.

Today my belly looks much better then yesterday...patience is the key! You didn't gain fat, that's for sure!

Re: weight gain and bloating

When I came home I had 7 "gained" 7 lbs, but now 9 days post op I have lost all of that and 2 more lbs. so the swollen belly is finally starting to go down, and my weight is going down with it.

Re: weight gain and bloating

I had my surgery on the 17th and gained 8 pounds. Yes, I was amazed by how my belly swelled 3 times the size. After a couple of days, I lost 6. My belly has gone down in size, but still swollen, which is normal.

Your tissues are inflamed from the trauma of the surgery. It will take time for them to heal, which is why they tell you to rest and not lift of bend too much to keep from aggrevating them. If you have to pick something up, try squatting instead of bending. World of difference.

Day 2 of my post op was horrible because of the constipation. Once I was able to finally have a bowel movement later that day, things got better.

Just wait things out and let your tissues heal - it's all normal.

Re: weight gain and bloating

I had surgery on 3/26 and my weight is still up. I have not lost a thing and I still have swelly belly. My underwire bra bothers me since it hits the top of my stomach. Has anyone else had this and tell me it goes down?
