when can/should I go back to babysitting a 3 yr old

I am wondering when I will be "strong" enough to go back to babysitting my 3 year old active grandson. I know we all heal at different rates so there's nothing specific. But I would love some advice. It's just him and me during the day and he's pretty much potty trained but he can be a "wild man" some days. He's very strong willed and is very good at turning his hearing off. On a good day he wears me out. He went to his other grandma's last week for a few days out of town (she works) and his mom is taking this week off but after that I don't think they have made real plans on what to do with him. My son-in-law has a couple employees who can occasionally babysit him if they aren't working on that day but other than that they really don't have a "long term" up plan. I hate to leave them in a lurch but if I'm not healed enough or too tired, I'm not going to be able to do it. Maybe if it wasn't my daughter I wouldn't feel so bad about this.

What are your thoughts or experience?

Re: when can/should I go back to babysitting a 3 yr old

I had my surgery April 4 and am in no shape to babysit myself let alone anyone else. Don't rush your recovery and chance needing additional repair surgery. If you do not have to lift him or drive and he listens and can maybe help you a bit,you could babysit soon maybe. It all depends on the child. If he gets into things and you constantly have to chase him down I would definitely not even consider it for a while. If he's the quiet type and just sits and plays with toys and watches videos it won't be bad at all.

I would have needed 6 - 8 weeks personally for a child that doesn't listen well...and even then. I am 4 months out and back to work full time and I am completely wiped out.
