Supracervical Hysterectomy

Hello All,

Thank you for your responses to my last post. I feel very overwhelmed right now and even this website is overwhelming with so much to read and learn (what is a princess? castle?).

Is there anyone here who has had and/or is keeping thier cervix and has kept at least one ovary? Does anyone know if there any stats on abdominal pregnancy? Two cases in Europe I know of, dont know of any in the states. I spoke to my doc about it and although he has heard of it he hasnt seen it. Anyone hear of such a thing? I planned to keep my cervix for sexual reasons, from what I have read it aids in keeping the vagina moist and there are nerve endings in the end of your cervix that respond to stimulation.

Hi Lillienne! Castle=hospital and Princess=YOU I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can answer your question.

My best wishes to you! s

Supracervical Hysterectomy

This is an interesting question (I always like those!) but the answer is that it isn't going to happen with the surgical techniques used for supracervical hysterectomies--they close up the cervix with sutures or staples.

Were those women who had had hysterectomies? All of the case studies of abdominal pregnancy (and it's RARE) I could find involved women with the "original equipment" but damaged tubes. It's basically an ectopic pregnancy that "fell out."

If you want to read more about the surgical procedures, you can check out

You might want to ask your doctor whether he has a different approach (can't imagine what it would be) because I'm surprised that he didn't just say that it's not possible. But maybe the question took him off guard?

Put it this way, after two years and 16,000 women coming through here, no one has even asked this before!
