Tvh,bladder/rectal repair w/ mesh & sling

4 days post op... what are initials to represent my procedures? I only know the TVH. During my reading I've noticed people talking about their cervix being removed with the uterus. Is this standard procedure? I know I still have ovaries and tubes and I KNOW my uterus is gone but cervix??? What are pros and cons of this??

I went 10 hours between meds because I skipped my 4 am ones. Sleep was nice but playing pain mgmt. catch up is REALLY hard! Breathing and positioning are painful.

In general, with pain managed, I am getting better and moving better. Struggles with voiding have eased (blessed be miralax and colace!!). I still have a catheter and will per MD at least 10 more days. While it's a inconvenient/uncomfortable, I'm glad for the decreased pressure on my post op battle wounds

Again, Thx for the support and answers! I am wishing everyone great health and healing (both emotional and physical)!!

Re: Tvh,bladder/rectal repair w/ mesh & sling

I also had TVH, etc. A & P & E repair is anterior/posterior/enterocele (I think). I had it all done, you name it, I got it. TVH is removal of uterus and cervix. I had a lot of bladder repair with cystotomy, cystoscopy, sling, and catheter for 10 days. Lots of posterior vaginal repair with rectocele, mesh, sphincteroplasty, perineal repair. I am just now at 6 weeks post op. Internally, I didn't feel a thing. Externally, the entire stretch of my perineum has been swollen about 10 times the normal size making sitting and walking painful. I've had a reduction in perineal swelling this week, but it's still a little swollen and tender. 6 week follow up in 2 days. I felt great the whole time, except for swelling in the perineum. I'm still oozing, and can't wait for that whole thing to become a memory. I had a catheter for 10 days. The first week I was comfortable, and really enjoyed drinking all the fluids I wanted without having to get up. The last 3 days of catheter, I felt like getting up, but the catheter was an irritant in urethra. Good feeling to have it removed. I am happy to have the surgery. I finally feel like all the parts are in the right place. And, of course, they finally are in the right place. My bladder had been pulled way, way, down and some of my bladder was attached to my cervix. Hence the cystotomy, and subsequent cystoscopy. and 10 day catheter. I've been peeing really well since then. No more stress incontinence. It's taken about 6 weeks for my bladder to return to nearly normal function. It's getting there, and every day there's improvement. What a relief.

Re: Tvh,bladder/rectal repair w/ mesh & sling

Sounds like you are healing well!!! I had a similar procedure and I am about 4 months post-op. From experience I can tell you, keep up with the pain meds, Motrin, etc. Once you get behind the pain curve, its too hard to catch back up. And don't skip your "colon cleaning" regimen either...Once constipation sets in, pain and discomfort around the surgery area follow quickly.. Its nice to feel that our parts are where they belong again isn't it?! Continued healing!

Re: Tvh,bladder/rectal repair w/ mesh & sling

If you had a TVH then you had your cervix removed as well as your uterus. Please do stay on top of your pain management, it slows your healing to get behind the pain. Happy healing!
