half ovary

I am debating whether to have a hyster because of multiple, big fibromas and very irregular periods.. I had half of my right ovary removed 15 years ago. MY left has multiple small <5mm cysts. If the doctor cannot take out the cysts and has to take out the whole ovary, will the remaining right half ovary supply the hormones I need?

Re: half ovary

Hi tomisarsa

I really don't know the answer to your half ovary question. I do not know if the half ovary realizes that the other ovary is gone and ramps up hormone production. That is probably a question for your doctor.

Whether or not to have a hysterectomy can sometimes be a balancing act weighing your current health concerns/quality of life issues against your future health and quality of life. Your doctor should be able to help you sort this out and lay out some of your options. This is not an easy decision, and should not be taken lightly. Make the decision that is right for you.

We are here to help you and will support whatever decision you make. Good luck to you.
