Complex cystic mass with septations-total hyst./da vinci questions!

Hello Everyone,
My name is Renee, and I am 28, married, and a mother of 1 daughter and 3 angels. I am FINALLY having a total hysterectomy after suffering from chronic pelvic/cervical pain, painful/heavy periods, and recurrant ovarian cysts.

I was diagnosed with HPV after an abnormal pap which showed early dysplasia. I had a colposcopy done, around the same time, I had a miscarriage where they found I had an 8cm. hemorrhagic corpus luteum cyst which required surgery to drain. I had 3 other subsequent surgeries to diagnose pain and drain cysts.

In 10/2010 I had a right salpingo-oophorectomy due to the number of cysts I got. APPARENTLY my Gyn knew I had a cyst in my left ovary at the time of surgery, but neglected to tell me about it.

I was now told I need to remove the left ovary due to a 5-6c.m. complex cystic mass with septations (possibly cancerous). I have opted to have my cervix removed along with my uterus because I suffer from severe sensitivity and pain in my cervix. I do not enjoy sex due to the pain.

I would appreciate advice on HRT. Should I take testosterone also to help with my sex drive (or lack there of)? And supplements to prevent osteoporosis? Are there any other side effects of having a hysterectomy at such an early age? How soon did you return to work after da vinci hysterectomy?

Thank you all

Re: Complex cystic mass with septations-total hyst./da vinci questions!

Of course, the standard answer is going to be "work with your doctor" regarding all of your very fine questions. So far, I have used nothing but 1mg of estradiol by mouth daily for my HRT after a dVh/BSO. I'm 46 and have felt spectacular since my hyster. My sex life is better than before my hyster. Sex was always great for me, but I had to deal with the bleeding, pain, anemia, fatigue and fluctuating hormones. Now, I still have an amazing sex drive with frequent, intense and often multiple orgasms, but with none of the previous hassles. I have not needed to use lube either. I've also lost just over 40lbs since my surgery. I have tons of energy and I eat small, healthy meals because that's what I crave now. Although you might not think so, I consider myself young and I think having this surgery is the best health decision I've ever made. My doctor says that my good health and positive family history give me an excellent predicted outcome. My sister had a TAH/BSO at 35 and has seen no negatives health wise-she also takes 1mg estradiol and has a great sex life. Follow a healthy lifestyle and be proactive with your doctor and I'm sure you'll have an outstanding post hyster life. Take care
