Recovery time for a laparascoptic total hysterectomy

what is your recovery time for a laparascopic total hysterectomy? I know all women recover differently. I just want an idea. did you go home the same day?

Re: Recovery time for a laparascoptic total hysterectomy

I went home the next morning, my roommate had to stay two nights because of nausea... it depends on you, but generally within 24 hours is pretty realistic.

I went home the next afternoon. My doctor put me out for 6 weeks from work. It depends on your job. I had my surgery on April 16 2012

Re: Recovery time for a laparascoptic total hysterectomy

I had my surgery 8 weeks ago, went back to work two weeks ago, at the six week mark. I thought I wouldn't need all the time off, but took it because CA guarantees you six weeks with a hysterectomy and my doctor said she was doing papers for that long. I had an uneventful recovery and still really really needed that long to feel mostly normal... just not sleepy and sort of out of it lol.

I was out the next morning, I don't work except taking care of my kids thats alot of work!!!! I'm almost 7 weeks post-op feeling pretty good I still get tired pretty easy not any pains only with some bowel movements.
My hardest time was week 3 think it was hormones trying to balance, had some bleeding felt like I was on my cycle...
But its been pretty good, I wish you the best

Re: Recovery time for a laparascoptic total hysterectomy

I am post op a week. I went in early last Tuesday and went home Wednesday mid morning. Not too sore. I can manage my pain with over the counter meds. Able to get up and walk around the house but I sit on the couch for most of the day. I have done a little grocery shopping with the hubby today, took about a half hour and was ready to sit down when it was over. It was the only thing I did today.
Depending on what work you do depends on when you should go back to work. I did some work today but was able to do it from home on the couch. I'm not going to actually go back to work for another week but I am a part time secretary and get to sit for most of the time. I don't put in more than 4 hours in a day. Sometimes less. Think about what you do. If you get medical leave, take what you can. If you don't, only go back when you actually can. You don't want another surgery because you pushed to hard and didn't heal right. The best advice here is to remember that you only have once to heal right.

Re: Recovery time for a laparascoptic total hysterectomy

I am going in and coming out the same day, the doc prefers us to go home and rest in our own bed. I was doing deli work, but I made a change and will be doing customer service, but I will be out for prob 3-4 weeks because I cant chance not healing. I heard so many stories from others that have gotten hurt bc they go back to work sooner. I have sick time, and vacation time that I can use for 2 of the weeks, but thats it. The husband will have to make up the difference, lol. Dreading it. so nice of you to let me know everything.

Re: Recovery time for a laparascoptic total hysterectomy

Hello, I had my surgery on the 9'th and was able to come home later on in the afternoon on the 10'th. Tiredness was the biggest thing for me. It was even hard concentrating for long periods of time. Best of luck.
