Re: Work the day before?

Thank-you ladies for all the wonderful advice. I think your right, I will just need to see what is going to be best for me. My boss has also been very supportive so far. My pre op is on the Monday so I guess they will advise me on what they think is best also. I wish you all the best with your surgeries and recoveries

Re: Work the day before?

I work overnights, and start the bowel prep the afternoon before my surgery, so I am definitely taking the day before off. If I worked regular hours, or didn't have the bowel prep, I'd probably work the day before to keep myself busy. But I think it really is a personal choice!

Re: Work the day before?

Of course, it's entirely up to you! I was scheduled to work 11p-7a the night before my surgery, and was fully prepared to do so, but ended up being put on call. My bowel prep was easy, just an enema the night before and one the morning of, so could have been done. It was nice to get a good night's sleep right before my surgery, though!

Re: Work the day before?

I really couldn't focus on much of anything the day before. I was irritable and not very talkative. I could only think about stuff I wanted to handle myself around the house. I'm glad I was off.

I had all the same issues you're having and I'm even the same age! If you have been living in the same pain I did for 4 years also, then your recovery shouldn't be too bad. I am in way less pain than before and I even have more energy! Good luck!!

Wow not only do we share a similar background but the first paragraph you wrote could have been written by me! This sums up exactly how I think I will be the day before! Iv talked to my boss and she has given me the day off YAY! No one wants a cranky Beautician ruining their day

Re: Work the day before?

First and most importantly GOOD LUCK!!!! I took the day off, got a pedicure, did laundry, changed my sheets, watered my plants, bought some comfort food and tried to have fun! I was a distracted mess, just normal pre-op nerves. But, I work as a phlebotomist and no one wants a nervous person putting a needle in their arm so as a courtesy to them I didn't If going will stress you out more take it off, or work a short day. I also didn't want people to keep asking about it. Which ever you choose will be the right choice so don't let this add more stress! I do highly recommend a pedi though

Re: Work the day before?

Do whatever works for you, don't worry about anyone else but you! Personally I NEEDED to keep busy, but that's houw I work. Others may need to be alone to mentally prepare. Worry only about you!

Re: Work the day before?

Well here I am, the day before and im at home. Thankfully, as I most certantly could not have concentrated on work. All you ladies that did work the day before I don't know how you did it! Strength springs to mind. Then again that springs to mind with all of the wonderful woman using this site
Was just reading back thru some threads and could not believe this day was here already.
I am sitting in bed next to my snoring Labrador and telling myself I really should get up and do something. But the butterflies in my tummy at this point are preventing this.
I hope you are all doing well Thanks again for all your advice
