Anyone have LIFETIME restrictions on lifting?

Has anyone been told that they will NEVER be allowed to lift more than 20 lbs for the remainder of their life? I read about one person who was told this. I am NOT talking about the time I will need to heal, which I understand is 10 weeks, and I am talking about because of a hysterectomy rather than back, knees or other concerns. Thanks

Not that I am aware of, that sounds harsh

Re: LIFETIME restrictions on lifting (vs recovery time)

I was told that I should not lift over 20 lbs on a regular consistent basis since I am prone to prolapse(lifelong for after the initial healing process)...had cystocele, rectocele and uterine prolapse repaired last Wed!!

I was told same as raspberry. I really don't want to live through these repairs again so I'm doing my best to behave.

I wasn't given a weight limit, but my doctor said It wouldn't be a good idea to ever do really heavy lifting like furniture moving etc. for the rest of my life.

I think letting someone else do some of the lifting is a small price to pay to be out of the discomfort I was constantly in. If you're prone to prolapses, it will only get worse and worse until you can't put it off anymore.

I looked for a doctor who kept my youngish age in mind and did her bets to make my repairs as long lasting as possible. Now I just have to do my part to keep things together also.

I was put off at first because I love to rearrange things and I'm constantly doing 'man's work' but I know I couldn't deal with the pain anymore.

Re: LIFETIME restrictions on lifting (vs recovery time)

I have never had a prolapse. Maybe that makes a difference. I have to lift luggage into a car. It rolls most of the time though.

Re: LIFETIME restrictions on lifting (vs recovery time)

I don't have prolapse issues either.Luggage isn't what my doctor meant. Your doctor will give you a weight/time limit for that. For lifetime restrictions my doctor was talking about stuff like moving heavy furniture and bench pressing heavy amounts of weight at the gym. pushing a stalled car off the road, etc. Kind of like the same heavy lifetime lifting restrictions a bad hernia operation patient may have.
