Good! I think if you listen to your doctor ( plus maybe add on a month or so for good measure) you'll be fine with the luggage,

Re: LIFETIME restrictions on lifting (vs recovery time)

It's 10 lbs and 10 weeks. If I avoid air travel I can put things in several small bags. I won't travel at all until near the end of the time period.

I work in a university development office and travel by air about once a month. That involves an overnight bag that weighs about 35 lbs,and a briefcase with a laptop. It is not really heavy lifting unless you can't put a 35lb bag in your car. I work out with weights in a boot-camp style workout but rarely use anythig heavier than 8-10 lbs pet hand. It is more about reps and balance. Again, as long as I can resume this after recovery I don't mind time off to heal.

Re: LIFETIME restrictions on lifting (vs recovery time)

I think you'll be fine. If you worked at an airport and were loading 35 pound bags onto an airplane 8 hours a day 5 days a week that would be different. If it's just one bag into a trunk every now and then I think you can be aware and try to lift in a way that stresses you less, but isn't going to be long term damage. I'm not a doctor, so definitely clear it with your doctor to be sure.

Re: LIFETIME restrictions on lifting (vs recovery time)

I actually had a broken rib a few years ago that made lifting, bending and laying (lying?) down very difficult--actually, impossible for the first two weeks and difficult for the next 4. I didn't do any overnight travel during that period and as I healed I just sort of adapted If I had to lift like that 8 hours a day, 5 days a week it would have hurt a lot longer to do my job. My primary care doc thinks I will be able to do everything I did before--I just read something on the internet about permanent lifting restrictions and I panicked. Thanks for your insight!

Re: LIFETIME restrictions on lifting (vs recovery time)

Can I get some clarification, is this lifetime restriction put in place for a normal uncomplicated TAH....or is this if there are other issues?? I asked my Dr and she had never heard of this for a normal uncomplicated TAH

Re: LIFETIME restrictions on lifting (vs recovery time)

The lifetime restrictions aren't for uncomplicated hysterectomies. They are for ladies who had repairs due to prolapse or a vaginal hernia.

I had my rectum and bladder lifted, but was given no restrictions passed 8 weeks.
