It's finally over!

Hi Everyone,

I found this sight a couple days before I had my surgery(abdominal supracervical hyst.)

Surgery was Jan. 2, 2002 - Happy New Year! I am just over 1 week post op, and finally have enough strength and concentration to look you back up and join.

Thanks to all who participate on this site! Your experiences and information have given me piece of mind and PEACE of mind!

Lack of stamina, soreness, & swelly belly, are all going on right now, but the gas pain and constepation are the worst! I am using Senecot for a stool softener, but has anyone found anything better?

Thanks to all.
Dayn

It's finally over!

Dayn,

Congrats and welcome to the post op side! Glad things went well and your recovery is going smoothly!

I did not have to use stool softeners. I drank a lot of fruit juices and water and ate a lot of fiber. Seemed to do the trick for me, but the first several bowel movements will be painful so be prepared!

Hope things continue to go well for you.

Hugs,

It's finally over!

Hello Dayn
I am glad to hear that you are home and doing well.
Be sure and continue to get lots of and lots of water and juice, and take short little s for recovery.
Stool softeners were a Godsent for me. They are wonderful. I used Senecot too, it worked well for me. Also Gas X is wonderful too for that aweful gas.
Please keep us posted on how you are doing.
Take Care

It's finally over!

I used Colace stool softener for days 5 - 14 post-op. That seemed to help. I did jumpstart my bowels with Milk of Magnesia, but I would not recommend my technique, LOL. Read on.

I wasn't really prepared for the constipation. I normally drink lots of water and eat lots of fiber, but that wasn't enough for me post-op. 5 days post-op I decided to use Milk of Magnesia as suggested by the hospital nurses. Well, I had never used the stuff before, and being the impatient type, I took a second maximum dose before the first maximum dose kicked in. What a learning experience! I certainly was no longer constipated! And fortunately, MOM doesn't seem to result in cramps. Thank goodness I didn't try ExLax! From now on I will wait for the first dose to act.
