Take the ovaries or not?

Sigh. I cannot decide if taking the ovaries out is best or not. I am 63 (today is my b-day). I worry about taking the ovaries leading to a heart attack or lung cancer etc. I just don't know what to think.

I hate this.

NotBrave!!

I figured you could use a little cheering!

Now, to your question on your ovaries. This is a tough decision, and one that I did not even have (I had no choice - both of mine were taken as part of my TAH BSO when I was 46, now 47.) Talk to your doctor about the pluses and minuses of keeping your ovaries. This is dependent on many things, including your own personal health history, your family history, and much more. You need to make the right decision for your health.

Sending (((Hugs))) to you.

Re: Take the ovaries or not?

:

All of these are for you today! Some very kind did this for me last week on my Birthday because I was also feeling down, and with these little symbols they just cheered me up so I wanted to share them with you.

You see, I have both of my ovaries, my surgeon said if they were nice and pink with no ugly things on them he wasn't going to touch them. I'm glad he didn't take them away.
At the moment at least I am not suffering from hot flashes, I don't suffer from vaginal dryness and neither having any problems with mood swings. So I think it was a plus for me.
We all think differently.
I wish you good luck with your decision! and once again......
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We'll always be hare for you

Re: Take the ovaries or not?

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear NotBrave, but hopefully will be brave soon,
Happy Birthday to you!!!!

I had to choose between keeping my remaining ovary or not. Several years ago, I had a dermoid cyst wrap around my right ovary which required surgery to remove the ovary and most of the tube. My dr. said there was a statistically significant chance of it happening to my left ovary too. He suggested taking it out but left the decision to me. After much research and thought, I decided to take the left one out too. FOR ME, this was the right choice. The thought of having to go through a
5th abdominal surgery really scared me and I thought getting my hormones balanced would be easier. It is such a tough decision that will benefit from a professional opinion.
Have you spoken to your dr. about your heart and lung concerns? I know that estrogen really can benefit these systems.
Anyway, sadly, no one can tell you the answer but you. Have faith that you will make the right decision. Enjoy your special day!!!! xxxxLaura

Re: Take the ovaries or not?

Thank you for the b-day greetings everyone. They made me smile.

I cannot wait until July 15th. That will be my post 6 week mark and hopefully I will be on to everyday life without this terrible cloud hanging over me.

I don't know what I would do without you ladies! Thank you so much. I look forward to being an encouragement to others instead of a drain on others.

Love you all.

Re: Take the ovaries or not?

Happy Birthday Notbrave! I am 49 and I had a SAH BSO. They found that my ovaries were shrunken, so removing them was a good move. The only downfall was that I am in menopause now and take Premarin, but the hot flashes/night sweats are just a passing thought and the vaginal dryness is a thing of the past now. There are pros and cons, so research and ask your doctor. Good luck on your decision.
