my appointment Tuesday

re: appointment with oncologist for complex ovarian cysts:

I got all the information from the Hospital for my appointment, they even sent me a video explaining what would be happening that day. It said to expect to be there anywhere from 2 - 4 hours, depending on what tests have to be done.

I have picked up all my ultrasounds and ordered my records from the urologist, gastroenterolgist and my gyn. I'm hoping that the gyn will have my records available for me to take along on the appointment, they said that it takes anywhere from 24 to 72 hours and I just requested them Friday, because I had to go into the office to sign a release form. None of the other doctors required that.

I'm a little less nervous about this appointment, but still very un-nerved.

Can anyone give me an idea of what questions I should be asking, besides "What is this". I can't think of anything to ask, until AFTER he tells me what it is.

thanks, janet

p.s. thank you so much for your posts of concern and support

my appointment Tuesday

JANET,

I WOULD FIRST ASK THE DR'S WHAT THIER FINDINGS WERE AND TO PLEASE EXPLAIN THEM TO YOU IN LAYMEN TERMS SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND.

MOSTLY, I WOULD TELL YOU TO TRY AND RELAX, WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING THAT'S ON YOUR MIND ABOUT THIS.

TELL THE DR TO EXPLAIN, THEY ARE USUALY PRETTY GOOD AT THIS, THEY KNOW YOU ARE SCARED AND WILL TRY TO EASE YOUR
MIND. ( WRITE IT DOWN )

I ALWAYS HAVE MY TRUSTY NOTES WITH ME IF I WANT TO ASK QUESTIONS, S

Hi Janet,
So glad that you are all ready for your appointment.
I agree with Puppy to make sure they explain everything to you in terms that are understandable. I think sometimes they forget they are talking to people without an MD degree, and we have to remind them sometimes.

Also Janet, is there someone going with you? That would be great as 2 sets of ears are better than one. I had my sister ( God bless her heart), with me at every appointment and she would take notes, and they were great for reference purposes.

All the best and let us know how you make out. Keeping good thoughts and prayers for you Janet!
Hugs

{{Janet}}

Wishing you the best for your upcoming visit. I hope you'll be able to get some answers that will help ease your mind.

I did the same, wrote down the majority of my questions prior to each visit and just went down the list. Luckily, the Dr was very patient with me and answered everything.

Please let us know how your visit goes, we'll all be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

{{hugs}}

my appointment Tuesday

thanks for your advice girls.

My husband is out of town this week, so I will be going to the appointment alone. I have a girlfriend who can pick me up if I need it. I just hate for someone (besides my husband) have to sit and wait on me for 2-4 hours.

Since my husband travels for a living, I am used to getting all kinds of news when he is gone. I just thought that I would rather have him home if I need surgery instead of now. We can't afford for him to take off that much work, and I don't have any family here in Florida, they are all out west in Washington State.

Anyone else who would go along, would have to take off of work, and I really hate to ask anyone to do that.

I'll post again Tuesday after the appointment. Thanks so much for your advice, well wishes and prayers.

Thoughts and prayers from a newbie

Hi, Janet. I just wanted to let you know my thoughts and prayers will be with you for your appointment on Tuesday. I'll be waiting to hear how it goes.

I'm new on this board, but I've been lurking for a while. We seem to have a lot in common. I had an ultrasound just week before last and it showed a complex cyst about the same size as yours. When my GP first gave me the results over the phone, he seemed very concerned about the possibility of malignancy and said he would help me get a rush appointment with my GYN. When that didn't happen, I called him back. He had talked with the GYN, and been told I just needed to follow up with another U/S in about 4 weeks. Unfortunately, I was in a lot of pain (there was also "complex" fluid in my cul-de-sac, maybe from a cyst rupture), so I pestered the GYN's office until they worked me in. He's recommending a hyst, but because of my fibroids, very heavy bleeding and endometriosis. He doesn't seem concerned at all about the cyst.

I really admire you for being so proactive and making that call to the cancer hospital. Your story makes me wonder if I should call a GYN oncologist just to set my mind at ease. I trust my GYN, but I'm still worried, too.

Again, best of luck on your appointment.

It's always a plus if you can get someone to go along with you and THEY could give you support. Write EVERYTHING down. Don't feel that you are being rushed...take your time, ask your questions and write, write, write. Best of luck to you!!
