MS Recovery

Hi Susan!

WELCOME! I'm glad you found this site. I have found it to be very informative and supportive. I also have MS. I was diagnosed in April '95. I had a tvh/bso on 11/19/01. As far as the recovery, it was wonderful for me. Prior to having my surgery I had an exacerbation with my MS about 2 weeks before surgery. I was taking an oral prednisone treatment. I informed my gyn and he said to make sure I told the antestethiologist before surgery. This was because of the steroid treatment. I have used Avonex before and it made me very sick so now I do the daily injections of Copaxone. As far as the recovery time for me there were no problems at all. Since surgery I have felt better than I have for a very long time. I have had very small exacerbations and have found them to be a lot less severe. I don't know if it is just that my MS is in a state of remission or that the surgery itself has helped my MS. I'm only speculating and hoping but as you know, we are never certain why. Just make sure that you notifiy your gyn about all the medications you are taking for your MS along with any vitamins. I personally feel that having the hyst has taken alot of stress off my body and therefore it has decreased my MS exacerbations.

I wish you the best on your upcoming surgery and hope your MS will stay under control. If you would like to e-mail me, please do. [email protected]

Recovery Question: what to expect

Well, Jan. 29 sure seems to be a popular date. Hope we don't overwhelm everyone as we get closer to our big day. I know that I am looking forward to having "it" done. I am tired of having a perpetual charlie horse in my abdomen.....

Marney/Jody/Photopro, thanks for sharing your experiences with me. I did see my neuro yesterday and he said unless I got and infection and spiked a fever, the MS would/should not affect my recovery. I have been taking Copaxone for about a year and have seen quite an improvement and haven't had an exerbation in quite a while. I originally was on Avonex but I cannot tolerate the side effects.

Good luck to everyone....

Susan
