Binder or no binder??

I recently had a TAH. When I woke from surgery I noticed I did not have a abdominal binder on. I requested one from the nurse and she got it for me. This got me wondering why I didn't already have on on, since I remember having one with both my c-sections and my tummy tuck. When I went to my doctors office a few days post op, I was told ( by a different doctor at the practice) that they didn't recommend them because it weakens your back muscles, but if I wanted to wear it I could.
Of corse, I feel more support when I wear it then when I don't. I'm afraid that my stomach muscles are too weak right now due to just having my surgery and I should be wearing it lie I did in the past, but ow I'm also afraid to wear it? Anyone else hear this about wearing a binder? Any advice or experience with this situation?

Binder or no binder??

I wore mine day 1-2 post op then didn't (hematoma was draining and I was afraid it would make it worse - now healed)
Then off mostly except for a few times. Feels good to wear it at night when I go to bed.

Re: Binder or no binder??

I didn't wear one. I had a myomectomy 10 years ago and didn't wear one then either. Neither doctor or any of the nurses mentioned one.

I know when I went out to walk, I wanted some extra support so I wore some of my tighther fitting sweatpants and it helped.

Seems so those shapewear garments like Spanx would do the trick.

Re: Binder or no binder??

My dr. said what yours did when i asked. he is not a fan and noticed his patients that get them (on their own becase he rarely will give them out, only iextreme casea) tend to have a much a longer recovery.
He if i used one tp only have it be when absolutely needed like first trips out of the house but not to become dependant on it to feel like you can do things or move around.
I can absolutely see how it would help, without the option though I did fine.

Re: Binder or no binder??

I've had 2 c sections and now a TAH and I have never worn one. My doctors never mentioned it. Now you have me wondering if I should go buy a girdle or spanx. Maybe it would help with laying down??
