Rheumatoid Arthritis And Hysterectomy

Hi Sisters!

I hope you can help me. A very dear friend of mine (Brenda) was told yesterday that she has to have a hysterectomy.

Brenda suffers from severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. She has been on steroids for the better part of 5 years. She was doing well (decreasing the amount of steroids she was taken) until she was in a bad car accident last August. The accident exaserbated the RA and sent her back to the major doses of steroids.

Her family Dr doesn't think that any surgeon would operated on her while she is taking the steroids, yet she can't stop taking them "cold turkey" do to many health concerns. She is scheduled to see her RA Dr to discuss possible changes in her meds. Her blood pressure is also through the roof (she could't remember the "top number but the bottom was 120). Normal, they say, is 120/80, so her's is definitely elevated.

Her recent ultrasound showed the utreus very enlarged, fibroids, and the right ovary not visible (probably due to the size of the uterus). She bleeds heavy and for 2-3 weeks at a time. She is 33 years old and has 2 children. A C-Section was performed with each child, and with the last birth she was told that she had severe endo. They "cleaned her up inside" but told her that a hyst would be needed then (8 years ago), but being a single mom and only having one income has not allowed her to have it done.

Okay, sorry this is so long...NOW, here is my question:

Are there any sisters out there that suffer from RA? Either Pre or Post that can offer any opinions, suggestions, experiences?

She is truly a beautiful person and I hate to see her in this much pain, I just have no idea what she is going through since I don't have RA. Any help would be SO MUCH appreciated. I have also asked her if I could post this before doing it, she welcomed any help that could be offered. Her email address is
[email protected]

Thank you to all would took the time to read this LONG post.

Thoughts and ers are with everyone!
