Not about Hyst, but Need Advice

Thanks for your comment, Fifi. We have tried several times to get counseling for Dale at drug rehab places and after their initial two hour "assessment" he has been refused treatment for "not having a drug problem; just using marijuana socially." I seem to be the only one in Orlando who thinks social use of marijuana is a drug problem.

A few kids in the local high schools have been shot during drug deals (and I grew up in New York City), so I know how safety is at stake when dealing with drugs of any kind. But these kids are the same way we were - no fear.

I don't know any more about his legal situation than I did in January because justice (or the lack of it) is not very swift. So hopefully he'll be able to at least graduate from high school in 62 days (but who's counting)!

Celeste, I don't have any advice. I wish I did because I really feel for you and your family. It's such a difficult situation and I'm so sorry that you're all going through this.

All I can do is send you a great big cyber and tell you that I will be praying that Dale will turn his life around and for strength and comfort for you and your husband.

God Bless

I'm sorry you and your family are going through this! s for y'all!

I remember when I was 10 my brother was 17. He was an accomplice to a crime. An arson. He was in the car, but didn't contribute to the crime. Guess what? He still did the time. And they tried him as an adult. 15 years later, he was out of jail, married, in a good, solid job. Then, his record bit him in the butt and was fired. Something to do with an article about how the arson was never solved. His boss saw that and out he went hunting for a job.

It follows you. And the only way that anyone learns, is to go through it.

Luckily, I was a bad kid, but never did anything but kiss boys! My heart goes out to you and your whole family. I hope that there is good news soon you can post in this thread! s

Off topic: I grew up in the Altamonte/Sanford Florida area and I'm surprised and pleased to see so many sisters from there.

Thanks, Gadget Girl, and everyone else who has contributed to this thread.

During the "discovery" phase of pre-trial, we learned that all four of Dale's "friends" had written sworn statements that all the drugs in the car that night were his. Two of the four were serious and well-known juvenile delinquents he had been forbidden to see. He had been lying all this time about them "not" being with him that night.

We've already given the lawyer $1000 but told him we'll take the court's original offer (which he recommended we refuse at the time) of a very restrictive six month drug program for Dale. He's annoyed and wants to fight (and I'm sure we can kiss the $1000 goodbye), but my husband and I both agree we're not wasting any more money on this. So it's up to Dale now.

If he completes the program (which includes 10 hours of counseling per week) successfully, his arrest record will be cleared.
