There are a few sites where you can find LOADS of info on PCOS:

is one.

Unfortunately I'm at work so I don't have my bookmarks handy or I'd give you a whole WACK of them

Enter PCOS into any search engine and you should have a great starting list.

Also there are wonderful groups on Yahoo that exchange info via :email:, as well as obgyn.net.

Hope that helps

2 odd questions...

I wanted to just say that I also worried about dying in surgery (or from surgery).
It is a normal fear. Lots of others have posted about that same feeling. Facing surgery seems to make some, if not all, of us feel our mortality.

In my head, I wrote "last letters" to each family member. I lay awake at night getting the wording just right, or worrying that I had not put it on paper yet. Or worrying how they would manage without me....etc. I am a very good worrier. Excellent, in fact. (I had risk factors for cancer involved, as well as a family blood disorder (hypercoagulation) to contend with.

I'm still HERE!!!!! You will be, too!

Try not to let it overtake you. Try some relaxation techniques, like deep breathing and relaxing all the muscles in your body one at a time, etc. Savor the moments with your loved ones.
Keep busy making all the preparations for your recovery period.
Ask for reassurance from your doctor and the anesthesiologist.

Pre- surgery was indeed the hardest part.

Weight loss

I'm 7 weeks post TAH/BSO and I've lost a total of 23 lbs. I woke up 15 lbs lighter just from the removal of all the icky stuff! I've always walked a great deal, so that doesn't account for the other 8 lbs I've lost since the surgery. I haven't exactly been dieting either (holidays and return of appetite after the first week post-op). Since I'm on HRT (Premarin .625), I have to conclude that it has made some contribution both to my energy level and metabolism, along with the fibroids being gone and no longer sucking the energy out of me. I certainly have much more energy now and don't just head to the couch when I get home from work. YAY!

2 odd questions...

Didn't have abd. surgery but I did loose weight after my TVH. The surgery aggravated my spastic colon and I really had to clean up my diet. Plus, I'm much more active ( I can run without diapers!) without my period and my bladder being fixed.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
