Post op recovery time after LSH

Hi there, I had my LSH on Jan.8th. What do you think is the recovery time, and how does it differ from an abdominal incision. I am still in quite a bit of discomfort and sometimes feel I am expected to be doing a lot better because it was laprascopic. I am wondering how much pampering is allowed and how do I convey this to the rest of the family. My husband overheard the Dr say some women can go back to work in a week, and I know that I would not be able to do this. Could the ladies who have been through this give me an idea of how long I can pamper myself to good health.

LSH recovery time?

Hi Mary

I didn't have a LSH, I had a TVH, however, my best friend had a LSH. Here's what her experience was like: she said that she felt great after 2 or 3 weeks but was very happy that her doctor ordered her off work for 6 weeks.

From what I've seen on this site, the average initial recovery from a LSH is 4 to 6 weeks. However, the lifting restrictings are the same as for a TVH or TAH: 6 weeks and more, depending on the surgeon and the work that was done.

In my humble opinion, you are entitled to pampering just as much as the rest of us are. Regardless of how it was performed, you still had an abdominal surgery. And you still had a major surgery.

lsh

I had mine on the 4th of January. i was out and about on the third day I was home and had my 10 day check up on the 16th. I have been working at my shop since the week after but I can not lift for 6 weeks although I can drive. I did not have any pain to speak of and did not need pain meds after the third day. I do know that there is a lot of co2 gas in there after a lap/hyst and sometime walking around helps it go away. I also know that if you take a lot of pain meds it can slow your bowel down and may make you feel more bloated and tender in there.
I am however still having periods where I am very very tired and I have taken a lot of naps this last week. If I did not work for myself I would not have gone back to work the next week I would have taken a full 6 weeks off. I know two other women that have had these done recently one went back to work after two weeks no problem the other took 6 weeks off and felt it took her at least that long to get back to feeling normal as she was also tired all the time for a couple of months.

Lap Recovery

Mary, Had a TLH on June 7th of 2001. Recovery is great but dont lift too much too soon. You still have internal healing going on. I still have twinges somedays. If you can take six weeks take it. I certainly did not regret it. Connie
