My surgery is scheduled for Jan 30th.

I'm having a total hysterectomy and because of large fibroids it can't be done vaginally.

I guess my only concern is how I will feel when I get home. My doctor says I should be able to get back to my 1/2 hr walk a day within 1 month. Does this sound true?

it's not as bad as you think

Welcome to a wonderful, warm community!

I had a TAH 8/27/01. The first week I was really sore, but each day you feel better and better. I felt 110% better the day after surgery than I did pre-op. Anything was an improvement from the daily pain and constant roller coaster I was on.

By my third week I was feeling guilty for not being at work. Physically I felt FANTASTIC! I was doing light housework, actually cooking a small lunch for myself and some laundry. HOWEVER, when I felt tired I stopped and took a nap. If whatever I was doing felt even the slightest bit straining I stopped IMMEDIATELY.

Just take your time and work up to things slowly. Also remember you may or may not hit that dreaded 3 week wall.

Follow your doctors orders to the letter and don't do anything without first checking to see if it is okay.

Best of luck and keep us up to date.

I'm scheduled to have a TAH ("horizontal cut") and bladder suspension with possible BSO on the 31st (originally scheduled for 24th but moved out).

From what my doctor is telling me, it sounds as if your doctor's timetable is pretty much on track. However... remember that not everyone heals at the same rate and the presence or absence of complications could affect a woman's recovery time.

If there's one thing people at this site (and the book resulting from this site) have drilled into me it's rest & go slowly to maximize your healing.

Be sure and read the "Through the land of hyster" book and remember you can conduct searches for specific info here.

Best of luck!
