Bladder suspension, sling, tuck?

I notice that several women have mentioned in their signature "bladder suspension, bladder sling, bladder tuck". I understand tuck but what are the others?

I have a 5" fibroid that has been pressing on my bladder and has been causing stress incontinence for about 10 years. My doctor had never mentioned anything about a fibroid before and I misdiagnosed myself believing I had weak pelvic floor muscles that I could strengthen by doing kegals. I finally decided enough was enough and finally confided in my doctor. She told me about the fibroid and states it is causing the problem but I'm wondering if a hysterectomy alone will cure my bladder troubles. Heaven knows I don't want to put up with this anymore. She has referred me to a GYN and recommends a hysterectomy. I also have all the other classic symptoms of a fibroid, (bloating, heavy periods, etc.). My appointment was moved from the 24th to the 30th and so I wait some more but in the meantime am wondering what these procedures are.

Not too sure what these procedures are either, but..

my gyne doesn't plan on doing one. I originally started this process because of stress incontinence, did a urodynamics test, and then went to the gyne. She is doing a TVH because of all my other problems but says that a bladder repair won't help me, it might make things worse. We are all hoping that once the fibroids stop causing pressure, that things may straighten out with my bladder. It's not just SI, it's also an urge problem. I drink a lot of water now since I've started losing weight and I just can't hold it anymore. I have to see a urology specialist and I'm hoping that appt. is before my surgery, so that if he assesses things differently than she has, then I can have the bladder repair. I sure don't want to schedule another surgery, especially since I'm having my gall bladder removed in a couple of weeks. No one told me that once I hit 40, my body was going to fall apart!! Anyways, I sure hope that your bladder problems resolve themselves after your surgery, Good Luck!

Hi!

Ladies, I can not help either. I had bladder problems and it was just from swollen tubes and pressure from colon and uterus. I haven't got any problems at least not like I use to after my hyst. I am sure some of the ladies that have had these will come along. Alot of them have also had large fibroids, so I am sure you will get answers. also go up to the pull down menus and look through some of the posts you will be able to find some info. God Bless. and

Heya....... let me tellya bout my tvt ....

My doctor told me about this neat procedure that has a really nice rate of fixing bladder troubles, a transvaginal bladder tape.... it is a sling that holds your urethra nd helps strenghten that muscle that lets you urinate. The neat thing about this surgery is that it helps right off the bat, and uses your own body to help, so you have a smaller repeat rate (some bladder tuck procedures will change with age and have to be repeated. With the TVT your body makes a scar tissue and that tissue is what helps keep things strong. If you want to see the procedure and read more about it go to www.pelvicfloor.com. I had a transvaginal hysterectomy and my tvt done at the same time, woke with a cath, had the bladder test done, peed really well for him, left the cath out, and have had dry panties since . With my age (29) and background this operation has just tickled me pink.

Hugs and good luck.

Jamie
