Re: Help with hormones

What did you do to fix your sleep? The progesterone? Or does estrogen help that too? Yes my thyroid and estrogen are not playing nice with either other LOL!

Re: Help with hormones

Left

It took me a long time to figure what helped. You will too.

First, I needed to get my estrogen balanced plus even. For me, the more even my estrogen was the better I slept. While I was getting the E right I used different sleep aids (nothing helped) and benadrl (helped a little). The trazadone helped me get a decent night sleep. It is non-addictive and does not interfere with REM sleep cycles like sleeping pills can. Trazadone is an 'old' antidepressant that causes drowsiness so they use it for sleep now.
After I got my E right, I added a small amt of progesterone at bedtime and that seemed to do the trick. I slept right thru the first night. It is because my E was right and adding a little P helped keep me stay asleep.

Everyone's path to hormone balance is different. The more you learn the better you will become at getting your balance. I learned so much from this site and from hormone books...like Screaming to be Heard. I followed what Vliet suggested for sleep and it worked for me.
E2 is right. Thyroid and estrogen don't play welll together and finding balance complicates everything. There is a lot on thyroid also in her book. Your library should have it.

Re: Help with hormones

Anyone ever play around with their vivelle dot patch dosages without doctors orders. I was on .5 and did not seem any better. I had some .0375 so I stuck one of them on with my .5 when my .5 started peeling up. So I didnt see any change in symptoms so I was thinking about putting on two .5 patches at once to see if I see any difference. Is this a bad idea? If it is too much estrogen will I be able to tell within a few days? Or if it is in the right direction will I notice any effect right away?

Re: Help with hormones

I think a lot of us who've used the patch have "tinkered" a bit. If it's what you need you may notice fairly quickly. If it's too much it could take a little bit of time. You might even initially feel better. If your patch is lifting in areas it means you're not getting the full dose. Fluctuating levels can make you feel like dirt! If you're having trouble with it sticking, try cleaning with alcohol wipe first. Also, the absorption on the butt/hip area is about 17-20% higher than on the abdomen. That's kind of a nice way to slowly raise the dose. If you're not getting much symptom relief DO call your Dr. right away though.

Ok thanks. I have been using in the hip area for awhile now but did start the alcohol cleaning last week.
