Re: Dumbest thing someone has said to you? Throwing a uterus party!!

I have so enjoyed reading all these posts! I know this thread is a few months old but I thought I would add my favorite thoughtless comment and see if there are others with new ones to add

The day before my surgery I was at church talking to two friends. They were asking me about the surgery and how it would be and what the recovery would be like. I had already said how I was pretty nervous, practically shaking, really. One girl said, is it similar to a C section? (What IS it with that lol) and the other girl answered, " oh no, it's worse. It's like TEN TIMES WORSE than a C section!" Ok, good to have validation that it is more serious...yes. But c'mon!! The day before my surgery! Hello! I'm shaking over here! Ten times worse! That echoed in my head all the way to the OR!

Dumbest thing someone has said to you?!!

I had to laugh when i read that. People just don't understand, especially men. My dad told me, "I have a friend who had that done. She was back at work the next week." Sigh. Im 3weeks post-op, and still recovering.

Dumbest thing someone has said to you?!!

I had a comment said to me, I was told "well now ur gonna age quicker"
As if laying in bed bleeding most if the month, painful fibroids, feeling Aweful everyday , etc.... Wasn't ageing me?

I'm ten months out from surgery and having a fabulous summer, feeling great! Bike riding, hiking, swimming, sunbathing, sex is great, wearing white!

If this is aging, I'll take it. :-)

Re: Dumbest thing someone has said to you? Throwing a uterus party!!

My friend said, "Why are you taking two weeks off from work? They are just pulling the thing out through your belly button. Sounds like no big deal." Clueless.

What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

Has anyone seen any good articles about this? Funny or serious? I swear I have had more people say stupid things to me since surgery! I am sure they were well intentioned mostly and I am sure having major surgery and no hormones is probably catching up with me but I am going to scream if I hear another "Now you can have all the sex you want" (yes, having my female organs is what was keeping me from doing that??) or "You are going to feel so much better" (I felt fine BEFORE, I feel like crap now!) or the best one of all.."Now that you are back to normal..." (THIS is normal??)
LOL! Don't worry, I am not sad or depressed, just sleep deprived, a bit sore and a little grumpy. Do you have any good ones to add?

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

I don't have any new ones, but have thought about with each well intended commit to show them the u tube of what an LAVH looks like and ask them so you think I should be feeling ok now? Did you recently give birth to your cervix and uterus? Or have you had to put a bag of frozen peas on your privacy areas because it was 5 times bigger then what it should be? Lol
The best one was when my 15 year ols daughter who sadly has bad cycles like I did...seen the grief section and said grief? It is time to have a party and burn the pads!

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

The morning after my surgery at shift change the first thing that my day nurse said to me was "congratulations on yournew baby" ( now i was in the postpartum area, but still) i looked at her and said i didnt have a baby i had a hysterectomy!
.........crickets.......
Then i saidi do have two at home though... she still was quiet.
Do they nit check charts before they see to morning patients or at least go over patients with the nightnurses?

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

If one more guy responds to the information that I had a hysterectomy for cancer by telling me all about his sister's/wife's/wife's sister's mastectomy, I'm gonna scream.

Re: What NOT to say to after a woman has had a hysterectomy?

I had a guy tell me he thinks his father had a hysterectomy too lmbo!

And then another one, I told him I had multiple fibroids on my uterus. He asked me if that's what makes us really fat or really skinny...he meant thyroids.

But I truly hate hearing, ”ur back to normal” or ”my grandmas cousins daughters best friend was healed in 2 Weeks” like I chose to be stuck in this house with screaming kids while my hormones jump all over the place
