I don't know if you would call this funny or stupid or just plane mean but My sister calls me a few hrs before I leave to go to the hospital and says " So, I bet you feel like you're going to be less of a woman, that after today you can NEVER have another child not even by fertility treatment like invetro .. You are going to loose your womanhood". I just told her Yes, that bothered me but I really didn't want to talk about it.. She just said that's how she would feel.. uuuggghhh!!!

Re: So, what's the dumbest thing someone has said to you @ surgery?

The dumbest thing I heard in the hospital after surgery was from the overnight nurse. I told her that the catherer was causing me great pain and she brushed me off saying the catherer will come out in the morning. As soon as another overnight nurse came in I told her how much pain the catherer was causing me and she went and got authorization to take it out. When the nurse that ignored me came in and saw my catherer gone she said, I did not know you were in that much pain, I thought you were just uncomfortable. I rolled my eyes at her and said what part of I am in great pain because of the catherer gave you the impression I was just uncomfortable?

Re: So, what's the dumbest thing someone has said to you @ surgery?

One of the dumbest things I heard came from a recovery nurse. I am allergic to most pain meds but we weren't sure about Dilaudid. Well, he gives it to me and I start itching. I tell the nurse that I am itching and she says "just scratch it." When I say it's my whole body she just ignores me and leaves the room. I ended up yelling "help" as loud as I could and got three docs to come running into the room. Turns out I was having an anaphyllatic reaction and needed epinephren. I told them the nurse left the room after I told her I was itching. I just don't think she even gave it one minutes thought.

Some nurses are fantastic and do above and beyond what is asked or expected. Other nurses, like this one, are just tired or lazy. Maybe yours was a little of both.

I find that it helps to be very direct with your doctors or nurses if something is truly bothering you.

What you did was very good.
It not only got the right people to you, but you got medical attention fast.
As it turned out, your condition was a little serious and needed immediate attention.

Good for you!

To I Love Glitter: I'm sorry for the hurtful statements. Some people just don't think before they open their mouths. Cry those tears openly and let us hystersisters help you through. It is no walk in the park, but you will make it through this with a little help from your friends here!

Nope.

The biggest thing I've gotten is, "But what if you and {hubby} want kids later?" Right. We've been together 20 years this month. The two boys I already have are pushing into their mid-20s. I'm ready for those grandbabies!
