Re: Hospital stay

I have a TAH scheduled and was told by my Consultant that I would be staying in hospital at least 3 if not 4 days after the procedure. I understand that the vaginal procedures require less time and I'm sure you'll get suitable advice regarding that.
Good luck and a speedy recovery!

Re: Hospital stay

Hi
I had a TAH and was in hospital for 4 nights. My friend had a vaginal hyst and was in for a similar time. (we're in the UK)

Hope that helps!

Re: Hospital stay

Hi. I had repairs via the ladybits route, was in 3 nights, for the girls having hysts, 4 nights. This too is nhs uk. It seems to differ from country to country, and if you are using medical insurance

Re: Hospital stay

The 23 hrs tends to be 23 hrs after you get in your room, not from when you get to the hospital (check with your ins co of course). So that's generally an overnight stay, leaving in the AM, and if you need more, the Dr justifies it to the ins co. I had a TVH (vaginal hyst) with an overnight stay which I think is pretty usual in the US. Hearing 23 hrs can be a shock but the key is when the 23 hrs starts. Clarify that in advance with your Dr and ins co and I think you'll be reassured.

Re: Hospital stay

For me the 23 hours started once I was in my room. It was a bit short, but I was more than okay going home. I would have liked another night since I have young children, but truly that was the only reason was to be able to rest a little more.

An overnight stay really isn't that bad and if you do not feel ready to go home discuss it with your doctor.

Re: Hospital stay

Thank you all for the info. My dr. Just called and confirmed that 23 hours start once u get to the room. The scheduling nurse said 23 hours from surgery. Only listen to doctors!!! I am so anxious and want to get this over with !!

Re: Hospital stay

I could have gone home 23 hours after getting to my room - my bladder was working fine and my vitals were all stable. My doctor normally wants his TAH patients in for 3 nights, but I wound up talking my way out after 2 nights (about 50 hours after getting to my room after surgery).

Re: Hospital stay

A lot of women have only an overnight stay after a hysterectomy. Of course, they won't send you home if you're not ready. I think the letter from my insurance said something about additional days if there was a medical need.

Re: Hospital stay

MY insurance company sent me a letter saying I was approved for a 1 day stay,I called them and they said after the first day,it is approved on a day to day status,so maybe thats what your insurance does. I would call them just to put your mind at ease.
